Great suspense, lousy drama
zzmale4 December 2003
The literal translation of the title of this film is Black Eagle.

The plot is rather a lousy one, but the suspense deserves the perfect ten, for Chinese films, at least. Similarly, it is also worth a perfect score for trying, the film maker was attempting to make up a completely fake crime drama/suspense, which was not common at the time of this film.

Shocked of the brutal scenes in this movie unusual for a Chinese mainland movie
euroasiangenetic31 August 2023
I was very shocked about some brutal scenes and dark tuned movie that I have not seen in a mainland Chinese movie before.

The story takes place after the massacre of Nanking in 1945. A few Japanese soldiers chose to stay in China instead of facing death penalty. Now in 1985 these soldiers are old living in China with their daughters, but they are killed by a mysterious murderer, who use same style of brutality as the Nanking massacre.

I like the idea of a story, but some scenes are hard to swallow. There are some surgical scenes that shows too much also some animal cruelty with cats.

I do not recommend this film, there are way better movies from the mainland without any brutal scenes.
