My wife likes the group Haim, particularly that song "The Wire" and I like what M83 did with the score for Oblivion, so just maybe the collaboration of the two on the song "Holes in the Sky" for the The Divergent Series: Insurgent soundtrack will bring us together in some unexpected way. I don't know. The studio today released the full tracklisting for the upcoming release, which will be available digitally on March 17 with the film hitting theaters three days later on March 20. I'm actually seeing it the Monday of that week (the 16th) so we'll see if this one can improve on the absolutely awful first film. Check out the tracklisting below and listen to "Holes in the Sky". "Holes in the Sky" - M83 with Haim "Blood Hands"- Royal Blood "Never Let You Down" - Woodkid featuring Lykke Li "The Heart of You" - Anna Calvi "Sacrifice...

As Ava DuVernay's "Selma" moves out into wide release Friday, just 10 days shy of the Martin Luther King holiday on Jan. 19, the film finds itself in a tug-of-war over accuracy and dramatic license. If you've only skimmed the headlines or caught wind peripherally, here's a quick timeline of some of the debate's highlights. *** December 22: Things begin just before the holiday, when Mark K. Updegrove, director of the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum, blasts the film's depiction of the King/Johnson dynamic at Politico. "'Selma' misses mightily in faithfully capturing the pivotal relationship — contentious, the film would have you believe," he writes. He then details how Johnson's feet-dragging on the issue of voting rights was less about simple trepidation than politicking and finding the best way to time out the series of events so that Congress wouldn't stop it cold: "Yes, Johnson advocated stripping a potent...

Days away from the wide release of “Selma,” a controversy around the film is gaining steam as historians take issue with its depiction of president Lyndon B. Johnson clashing with Martin Luther King, Jr. over voting rights.
In a lengthy New York Times story about historians taking issue with the movie, Diane McWhorter, the author of “Carry Me Home: Birmingham, Alabama: The Climactic Battle of the Civil Rights Revolution,”argued Thursday that the movie is not truthful in depicting Lbj (played by Tom Wilkinson) fighting King on staging protests in Selma.

The Killers have unveiled the video for their new single "Runaways," and it's everything that you remember a Killers video being, plus a few nods to Rock Band. Did you see that full combo?
"Runaways" premiered earlier this month and is the first single from the band's upcoming fourth studio album, Battle Born. In the video, frontman Brandon Flowers dons his signature leather jacket and stands still -- in space? -- as the ground beneath him speeds away. It's a simple yet effective visual for a song that starts off with piano chords and then catapults into a fist-pumping stadium anthem.
The Killers have yet to release the full tracklisting for the album, but the frontman has confirmed that "Heart Of A Girl," "Flesh And Bone" and "Carry Me Home" will be included. Flowers revealed to NME that the album is "going down a few different roads." Now, all of...

The Killers have released the name and artwork for their latest single, "Runaways." The track is the first single from their highly anticipated fifth album, Battle Born, and will be released July 10.
The art consists of a single metal lightning bolt against the backdrop of barren desert, suggesting that the Killers are sticking with the dramatic themes that fans have come to know and love from the Las Vegas rockers.
Battle Born is the first offering from the Killers since 2008’s Day and Age. The band had been on hiatus since January 2010, stating they needed some time off after touring and recording for the better part of six years. Recording for Battle Born reportedly began in May 2011, and it is expected to hit stores sometime this fall, though no definitive release date has been announced.
“Runaway” isn’t the only song title that we’re aware of on Battle Born.

Yesterday it was Muse and today it's the Killers … album trailers are officially the new thing!
The Killers revealed the trailer for their fall 2012 release Battle Born on their Vevo page today (June 7) and the sound is, well, very much like most other Killers albums. Things kick off with some ambient sounds that evolve into a heavy synth line, which itself builds to a crescendo before introducing some drums. Sounds about right.
Visually, the clip opens on a sunset before seguing to a campfire intercut with a montage of shots of the band and flashes to the album title being spelled out letter by letter.
NME reports that track titles confirmed for Battle Born include "Heart Of A Girl," "Flesh And Bone," "Carry Me Home" and "Runaways." The band is again working with producer Stuart Price, who previously worked with the band on their last effort, 2008's Day & Age, and...

Justified, Teen Wolf, Pretty Little Liars and Body Of Proof are among the 28 projects picked by lottery to receive tax credits from the California Film Commission’s $100 million allocation, the commission revealed today. The basic breakdown: 10 film productions and 18 TV productions will receive credits. The commission says 53.5% of the projects were independent and 46.5% were studio-based. It estimates the projects will spend more than $683 million in California, including nearly $265 million in qualified wages. Related: Will ‘Body Of Proof’s California Production Tax Credit Win Help Secure Back Order? The selected projects, which could change based on schedules and other production-delay issues, will mean employment for about 2,800 crew members, an estimated 2,900 cast members, and 57,000 extras/stand-ins. (Update: The Hollywood guilds have come out with a pro-tax credit statement praising the lottery results; see their statement below.) The commission received 322 applications for this year’s production tax credit lottery by Friday’s 3 Pm deadline.

Carry Me Home takes place in 1940, in rural Wisconsin, although it could just as easily be many other places in the country. The rural community Krig creates is as lush and interesting as any community about which I've read in years. Every character leaves an impression that lingers, hanging around long after they've left the page. The rural setting combined with the not-quite-right teenage protagonist will undoubtedly result in comparisons to Faulkner. I generally hate that anything rural gets related back to Uncle William, but in this case the comparison is probably merited. Although this narrative is simpler, Krig has some bone-crushing observations via the innocence of Earwig, the teenager in question, that can't help but to put one in the mind of Benjy.
The novel hinges on the relationship between Earwig and his big brother, Jimmy. Jimmy, fiercely protective of his younger brother helps Earwig to carve out a...
