A rare documentary
wffmac18 January 2005
"FOR LOVE OF JULIAN," narrated by Susan Sarandon, is a unique and personal documentary about multiply handicapped, profoundly brain injured children. Using candid, in depth interviews with parents and professionals along with striking visual documentation, a window is opened into an unfamiliar world.

The central objective of "For Love of Julian" is to ensure that the next time a stranger meets a child  with multiple handicaps, they will not look away but rather into the eyes of a human being, staring across a divide no longer. Ultimately,  "For Love of Julian" is about appreciating what one has and making of life what one can.

"For Love of Julian" is that rare documentary film that opens a locked room to illuminate all the pain and love behind its closed door.Wrenching in its honesty, seething in its rejection of easy answers, appalling in its display of life's uncaring vagaries, and touching in its depiction of people's unduly-tested strengths, it provides redemptive glimpses of the outer boundaries of parental devotion as they grapple with the unendurable."
