Not much a work of social criticism, but rather an honest depiction
zzmale11 March 2004
The literal translation of the title of this movie is: One Bloody Case.

This movie, like most Chinese crime movies in the 1980's and 1990's, is based on the true story that really happened. This movie is really not so much about social criticism, a topic that echoes in most of its contemporary counterparts in China, but rather, it is just an honest depiction of what had happened.

The movie does not point fingers to the common problems that plagued China, such as the rampant corruption and the inefficient bureaucracy, but it does point out the inadequacy in the Chinese legal system that hinders investigation, and advocates the need of reform.
