Trump Media and Technology Group Shares, Donald Trump’s media company, have plummeted again after it reported losing $327.6 million in the first quarter of 2024.
The firm reported that Tmtg, the parent company of Trump’s Truth Social site, had revenues that barely reached $770,500.
Since Friday’s market close, the company has been witnessing its share price drop of 13.2% to $44.19, a figure weakening from its peak of almost $72 during its initial public offering in March. The stock had declined 8.6%.
The price crash has cost the former president, who owns 114,000,000 shares in Tmtg, over $766 million.
Trump owns almost 65% of the company, valued at nearly $6 billion.
Company officials stated that the first quarter results reflect the complications of a deal in March to merge with Digital World Acquisition Corporation. This special purpose acquisition company allowed Trump’s company to be publicized via merger.

Billionaire media mogul Barry Diller criticized Trump Media & Technology Group, the parent company of Donald Trump’s Truth Social platform, and labeled it a “scam” at an appearance on CNBC after the company’s recent public listing.
In an episode of Squawk Box on Thursday, Diller expressed his skepticism, “Why are you even talking about this? It’s a scam, just like everything he’s ever been involved in is some sort of con.”
After the company began trading last week, shares of Trump Media surged to over $79. However, the stock has since plummeted to $46 per share as of Thursday night. Trump Media reported a revenue of $4.1 million and a significant loss of nearly $58.2 million in the previous year.
Host Andrew Ross Sorkin highlighted the remarkable yet possibly irrational movement of Trump Media.
Diller stated, “I mean, it’s ridiculous. The company has no revenue.”

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav gave former CNN chief Chris Licht a warm endorsement, even hinting at the possibility that the TV news vet could work again with the company.
Licht is a “great guy, talented guy,” Zaslav said at the New York Times DealBook Summit at Jazz at Lincoln Center, as Licht sat in the audience. The exec was ousted from CNN last June after a tumultuous run capped by a damning profile in The Atlantic. Weeks before the WarnerMedia-Discovery merger closed in April 2022, Zaslav had chosen Licht to head up CNN, reportedly without having conducted a robust search process. The two had been personally acquainted before the hiring.
“Chris is a good friend,” Zaslav said. As to their parting ways, he added, “That was … look, there are a lot of good days and a lot of tough days. Chris has had a lot of great days.

Who’s doing it better — Kristen Welker or Jake Tapper?
The two journalists, one the new moderator of NBC News’ “Meet The Press,” the other the anchor of the weekday “The Lead” and a co-anchor of “State of the Union” at CNN, aren’t typically pitted against one another. But there they were on a recent Thursday afternoon around 4:30 p.m., duking it out for the future of their medium.
Welker was holding forth on “Meet the Press Now,” a show earmarked for streaming users on the broadband outlet NBC News Now. Tapper was anchoring his regular Thursday broadcast of “The Lead,” a program that is now also streamed to subscribers of Max, the main broadband hub of Warner Bros. Discovery. Both were grilling Republican congressmen about the recent ouster of former U.S. Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy, and, while not necessarily realizing it, hoping to appeal...

At least one of the big companies that distribute CNN via cable or satellite is unnerved by how closely the company’s new live-streaming service looks like its TV network.
Big satellite distributor DirecTV has let executives at Warner Bros. Discovery know via letter that its executives believe the similarities between the two products violate the carriage contract between the two companies, according to a person familiar with the matter. The new CNN streaming service, CNN Max, just launched last week and includes many of programs that run on linear CNN, including “CNN This Morning,” “The Lead With Jake Tapper” and “Anderson Cooper 360.”
The New York Times previously reported the contretemps between DirecTV and Warner Bros. Discovery.
“Wbd maintains strong and meaningful relationships with our affiliate partners. Our partners are aware of and understand our rationale with Max, which is to reach new audiences,” Warner Bros. Discovery said in a statement.

There are a ton of live and on-demand news programs available on the NBCUniversal streamer, depending on your needs.
News and television have gone hand in hand since the TV set first became a must-have appliance in American households. The average viewer’s relationship with the news may have changed since then, but even in 2023 local news is still the most-watched category of content on broadcast TV channels.
Streamers are rushing to meet the demand for live news from their viewers, and it’s fair to say that Peacock is ahead of the game. The NBCUniversal streamer has a great selection of news content, whether viewers are looking for live, breaking updates, analysis by figures they trust, or simply want to see what’s going on in their local communities.

CNN, whose brief foray into subscription streaming was snuffed out shortly after the close of the WarnerMedia-Discovery merger in April 2022, is officially getting real estate on Max.
A new offering, CNN Max, will be added to the streaming service in what Warner Bros. Discovery called an “open beta” on September 27. It will consist of a 24/7 stream pulled from the news network’s U.S. and international feeds, with a sprinkling of original fare, with user feedback welcomed. For many reasons, some having to do with contracts with pay-tv operators, it won’t be a full-over-the top version of linear CNN, and certain talent and new shows like the new 9 p.m. hour hosted by Kaitlan Collins will not be in the mix.
Wbd CEO David Zaslav hinted at the new venture during the company’s quarterly earnings call several weeks ago, saying news and sports make SVOD platforms “come alive.

You might call it CNN Headline News — for the streaming era.
Warner Bros. Discovery plans to unveil a 24/7 live-streamed news service called “CNN Max” on September 27, and indicated the outlet would focus initially on breaking news. Anchors including Jim Acosta, Rahel Solomon, Amara Walker, Fredricka Whitfield and Jim Sciutto have been given assignments, with Sciutto set to lead breaking news in the afternoons. Bianna Golodryga and Christiane Amanpour could also have roles, according to a person familiar with the situation.
CNN has fallen far behind its rivals when it comes to streaming, with Warner scuttling a nascent subscription-based streaming outlet, CNN+, last year. As the company recalibrated CNN’s strategy, however, MSNBC, Fox News Channel, ABC News and CBS News have all had opportunities to establish new programming for the broadband set, and to experiment while refining their brands in the space. Netflix co-ceo Ted Sarandos addressed SAG-AFTRA and the WGA’s historic double strike at the top of Wednesday’s earnings call.
“This strike is not an outcome that we wanted,” he said. “We make deals all the time. We are constantly at the table negotiating with writers, with directors, with actors, with producers, with everyone across the industry, and we very much hoped to reach an agreement by now.”
Sarandos acknowledged the “enormous pull” strikes can have on families both financially and emotionally, citing his own upbringing in a union household.
“You should know that nobody here, nobody within the AMPTP and I’m sure nobody at SAG or the WGA took any of this lightly,” he added. “But we have a lot of work to do, there are a handful of complicated issues, we’re super committed to getting to an agreement as soon as possible, one that’s...

Netflix co-ceo Ted Sarandos addressed Hollywood’s dual SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes alongside the release of the company’s Q2 earnings results Wednesday.
“Let me start by making something absolutely clear: This strike us not an outcome that we wanted,” Sarandos said during Netflix’s pre-recorded Q2 earnings interview. “We make deals all the time. We are constantly at the table negotiating with writers with directors with actors and producers with everyone across the industry. And we very much hoped to reach an agreement by now. So I also want to say, if I may, on a personal level, I was raised in a union household. My dad was a member of Ibew Local 640. He was a union electrician. And I remember his local because that union was very much a part of our lives when I was growing up. And I also remember on more than one occasion my dad being out on strike.

Netflix stands to benefit from the dual strikes underway in Hollywood while competitors like Disney and Apple will get “weaker,” in part because of the streamer’s vast international production pipeline, a top media-stocks analyst said Wednesday on the brink of earnings season.
“The strike plays to their advantage,” Michael Nathanson, founding partner of Svb MoffettNathanson, said on CNBC’s “Squawk Box.” “I’ve not been a Netflix bull, but their setup for this quarter and the next 12 months is incredibly strong.”
Co-host Andrew Ross-Sorkin seized on that notion, seeking to clarify whether Nathanson meant Netflix would get stronger merely relative to its competition – or if it could help the streamer overall. The answer seemed to be: a bit of both.
“I think relative, clearly, right?” Nathanson said. “You had (Disney CEO) Bob Iger on air last week – I’ve never heard him sound so bearish. The backdrop for traditional media is really tough.

Joe Kernen, co-host of CNBC’s Squawk Box, took aim at what he called “mainstream media” hype about the potential for Meta Platforms’ Threads to kill Twitter, insisting he is “not mainstream media.” He also said he “wouldn’t sell Elon Musk short” in the social media competition.
This morning’s exchange with Axios business editor Dan Primack (see video below) came during a segment noting that the Instagram-backed Threads has passed 100 million users in less than a week. That initial growth rate beat that of Chat Gpt, which was previously the fastest application to reach the milestone.
Kernen, who has never exactly been shy about expressing his right-of-center views on the show, did most of the talking. He argued that media coverage of Threads has been laudatory because of the fact that the Meta service has explicitly sought to de-emphasize politics and other controversial content verticals.

Updated: Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav felt the effect of the WGA strike while delivering a commencement speech at Boston University May 21, getting jeered and facing chants of “pay your writers” while he was trying to speak. Ten days later, the university’s president published an op-ed in the school’s newspaper chastising the students for their behavior and apologizing to Zaslav.

Donald Trump opened his town hall on CNN Wednesday night by reiterating his false claim that the 2020 presidential election was “rigged.”
The former president sat down Wednesday evening for a conversation moderated by Kaitlan Collins broadcast live from New Hampshire, fielding questions from Republicans and undeclared voters in the state. At the start of the evening, Collins and Trump sparred over false conspiracy theories about the results of the 2020 election and the degree of the former president’s involvement with the attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.
“When you look at that result and when you look at what happened during that election — and unless you’re a very stupid person you see what happened,” Trump told the crowd. “That was a rigged election.”

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav pushed back against the idea that Hollywood studios see the Writers Guild of America strike as an opportunity to cut costs.
“We’re a pure storytelling company, and we’ve been fighting to get the greatest creatives to come work at Warner Bros.,” Zaslav said during an interview on CNBC’s “Squawk Box” on Friday. “In order to create great storytelling, we need great writers, and we need the whole industry to work together and everybody deserves to be paid fairly.”
Zazlav seemed as anxious as anyone to end the labor stoppage that began this week.
“So our number one focus is let’s try and get this resolved,” he said. “Let’s do it in a way that that the writers feel that they’re valued — which they are — and they’re compensated fairly. And then off we go, let’s tell great stories together.

But the company’s CEO told CNBC’s Squawk Box in an appearance prior to the call what he believes will bring the impasse to an end: “A love for the business and a love for working. We all came into this business because we love storytelling. … That’s what’s going to bring us together.”
When co-hosts Andrew Ross Sorkin and Joe Kernen suggested that studios might be “glad” that the guild is on strike because they will be able to cut costs, Zaslav hastily replied, “We’re not glad.”
The exec said he is eager for a resolution to the strike, which threatens to halt Hollywood’s momentum after the clouds of Covid were just starting to part. “In order to create great storytelling,...

Warner Bros. Discovery chief David Zaslav weighed in on CNN’s controversial decision to host a live town-hall format Q&a with former President Donald Trump — defending the decision as needing to represent “both sides.”
“The U.S. has a divided government. We need to hear both voices,” Zaslav said, speaking Friday on CNBC’s “Squawk Box” when asked about Trump’s scheduled May 10 appearance on CNN. “Republicans are on the air on CNN, Democrats are on the air… When we do politics, we need to represent both sides. I think it’s important for America.”
Zaslav continued about Trump, “He’s the front-runner — he has to be on our network. We’re happy he’s coming on there.”
“This is a new CNN,” Zaslav said. “I’m proud of CNN, we’re on a great journey and this country needs it.”

David Zaslav Shoots Down Claims That Cost-Conscious Media Companies Are ‘Glad’ Writers Are on Strike
Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav responded to the writers strike following the release of the company’s Q1 earnings report Friday, shooting down claims that some companies are “glad” that the the Writers Guild of America (WGA) is picketing instead of writing.
“We’re not glad,” Zaslav said during an interview on CNBC’s “Squawk Box” on Day 4 of the writers strike.
“In order to create great storytelling, we need great writers, and we need the whole industry to work together,” the Wbd chief said. “And everybody deserves to be paid fairly. So our number one focus is, let’s try and get this resolved. Let’s do it in a way that that the writers feel that they’re valued, which they are, and they’re compensated fairly. And then off we go. Let’s tell great stories together.”

The ongoing writers strike is threatening the long-term strategic plans of the major entertainment companies, but while some companies are reported to be pleased that the strike could give them an opportunity to trim costs, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav says he doesn’t share that point of view.
“We’re not glad,” he said on CNBC’s Squawk Box Friday morning, when pressed by co-host Joe Kernen about the potential cost savings.
“Look, we’re a pure storytelling company, and we’ve been fighting to get the greatest creatives to come work at Warner Bros.,” Zaslav said. “In order to create great storytelling, we need great writers, and we need the whole industry to work together, and everybody deserves to be paid fairly. Max Meyers has at least one firm rule about his new CNBC program, and it might surprise some of the business-news outlet’s die-hards. “I told everyone, ‘No earnings,’” says Meyers, a veteran producer at the NBCUniversal-backed cable network. “I don’t want to hear that.”
No net income on CNBC? Such a dictate would be anathema on “Squawk Box,” the morning-news program that Meyers previously ran, but it might just stick on “Last Call,” a new 7 p.m. effort from CNBC executives that aims to keep business-news aficionados hanging out with the network until later in the evening. Over the past week, anchor Brian Sullivan, who is moving from a 5 a.m. roost on “Worldwide Exchange” to anchor the new evening show, has held forth on everything from Tesla to Salesforce during rehearsals, ready to give late-breaking news to CNBC’s market faithful.

Gov. Ron DeSantis has assumed control of the board that oversees development at Walt Disney World, seizing leverage over the state’s largest employer and retaliating against the entertainment giant for opposing the so-called “Don’t Say Gay” law.
“Today, the corporate kingdom finally comes to an end,” he said Monday at a bill signing ceremony on Disney property. “There’s a new sheriff in town, and accountability will be the order of the day.”
Under the law, effective immediately, DeSantis has the authority to appoint every member of the special tax district’s five-member governing body subject to approval by the state Senate. At the news conference, DeSantis said Florida attorney Martin Garcia will serve as chairman. The board will include Brian Aungst Jr., a lawyer and son of a former Republican mayor of one of Florida’s largest cities, Florida Republican Party chairman Christian Ziegler, Bridget Ziegler, a conservative school board member,...
