When it comes to cultural impact, mega-sales and drama, this year’s Best Original Song category at the Academy Awards is going to have an awfully difficult time competing with last year’s category.
The 2013 winner, you might remember, was “Let It Go,” the anthem from “Frozen” that became a hit around the world and spawned a zillion amateur YouTube renditions.

Candy Spelling dumped a lover over a penile implant, Rep. Allen West says Glsen is indoctrinating children, can marriage equality in all 50 states arrive by next June?
On a typical Monday in New York, a 26-year-old man and the 21-year-old prostitute he’d called to his home got into a fight when he refused to pay the man. It got ugly, breaking a glass door in the lobby, and police were having trouble reconstructing the fight when David Schwimmer appeared and told them his security cameras next door had captured the whole fight, making him a hero. I hope the prostitute got paid in the end. So that’s what Ross has been up to these days.
So it seems that Pixar’s next film, Inside Out, is basically Herman’s Head for teenage girls.

John Mayer made an observation that lead to an interesting exchange via the social networking site. Yesterday, the guitar giant tweeted, "Listening to the hits channel on Sirius. I will reserve criticism but say that every ninth year of a decade really brings the junk." He went on to point out that the charts in 1979, '89 and '99 are all relatively low-quality, and in the meantime, the "2" years ('82, '92 and 2002) all seem to produce greatness. Mayer uses the example of Warrant to throw 1989 under the bus, which is a brilliant strategy considering that their album Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich was not only gigantic but also represented the predominant trend of the era (that being hair metal). But is it a fair assessment of the decade? And how do those other years measure up?
Mayer is a little unfair to 1979, as the top singles from that year were a mix of disco tracks,...
