A very solid episode.

It's a fairly basic, run of the mill plot, with a fairly obvious victim, and fairly obvious killer, but the story is very well delivered, the characters are great, but it's the acting that makes it so watchable.

Andy is normally grumpy and irascible, but he is even worse here, obviously terrified by the thought of getting older and retiring, you really get a sense of the anxiety he is feeling, a particularly great job by Clarke here, Peter was just as grumpy. Well acted all round, Alison Steadman was excellent, as she always is.

So the crime itself wasn't exactly baffling, but the story and character play make this a very good watch. 8/10

I know the show wasnt designed to be bingewatched but I am pleased to get through the lengthy first 33 episodes in 17 days. It has already been quite a journey.

This series 8 has been solid but not brilliant Like many recent episodes, this has a big name cast but not that good a story.

There has been no mention of Pascoe's family for quite a while, Weld hasn't been replaced and, to be honest, this might have been a good point to end the show.

This story does seem slow and plodding. Perhaps, instead of big name actors, a good script writer might have been more beneficial.

Not the best episode but a good earthy feel.
