"Give 'em hell, Kevin"
charlytully1 May 2009
Warning: Spoilers
INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS star Kevin McCarthy stepped off a cruise ship 30 years later (1985) to chat for a few minutes with TV movie host Tom Hatten about McCarthy's career, SNATCHERS, and his seven-year on-going stint impersonating U.S. President (1945-1953) Harry Truman in his one-man show, "Give 'em Hell, Harry," which McCarthy had just performed on the high seas as a live-act\film-hybrid double feature with INVASION. Perhaps the two most interesting tidbits of info relevant to the original film rendering of Jack Finney's serial for Collier's Magazine, IBS, was McCarthy telling how he reprized his crazed rant amidst heavy highway traffic toward the end of the 1956 version as a cameo for the 1978 edition, starring Donald Sutherland (and how the framing scenes at the start of the 1956 version and at its end, after his rant, were added because 1955 test audiences did not go for the first cut's implication that humanity was doomed), as well as his description of the body casting process used to generate the principal actors' pod doubles.
