WOULD YOU CRY IF I DIE?
nogodnomasters14 December 2018
Warning: Spoilers
A drug dealer nick named Street (Loco) gets killed by a few of the people who dealt for him. The killing is witnessed by a homeless man (Wayne Dehart) who tells them true ghost stories in exchange for his life. After three stories we have the expected results.

The film was poorly acted, especially the youths in the first segment. The writing was formulaic so there were no real surprises. The horror aspect didn't work either. The movie has very little going for it.

Three episodes: 1) Drowned girl haunts the culprits when they are adults. 2) Aborted fetus haunts his mother. 3) Co-ed suicide haunts college.

Parental Guide: F-bomb. No sex or nudity.

Blaxploitation horror anthology
Leofwine_draca2 July 2017
Warning: Spoilers
STREET TALES OF TERROR is a blaxploitation horror anthology, shot on video in a very dated way that makes it look like it comes from the mid 1990s. There are exactly three stories that take place here and none of them are remotely convincing, although I did get a few chuckles from the sheer poor quality of them. The first story is a predictable one of ghostly revenge, the second is about the ghost of an aborted foetus and quite sick, although too poor quality to be disturbing. The final story is about a high school suicide ghost. Nothing here is very effective; it's a film to be endured rather than enjoyed.

1001 Horrific Nights
nammage30 January 2017
Warning: Spoilers
...for the one watching this film.

First story is about three girls who don't save a drowning girl because she isn't cool enough? Or she tattled on one girl and that meant she should die! Though one girl did feel bad about it but didn't really come clean until 20 years later. Didn't matter, the dead little girl, who when alive was a sweet girl, dead she was a killing monster. What was the significance of 20 years? I have no idea. Maybe that's how long it takes for the dead to walk the Earth.

Second story was kind of short but seemed to be anti-abortion. Woman goes to get a second abortion (she got one when she was 17) but apparently she's schizophrenic or something because she has these wacky dreams where her aborted fetus baby is coming to go back in her womb. Of course that was the first wacky dream. The second one the doctor is mad and just keeps taking her organs out until he gets to a new born 9 month fetus baby who mysteriously grows to a four year old and then literally crawls back into his mother (wearing briefs) where she then wakes up again and decides to keep the creepy underwear baby. The moral of that story is: if you have an abortion a creepy fetus briefs wearing baby will crawl back up into you so might as well just have the baby.

Third story of three guys sneaking very loudly into a girl's dormitory but on the hush hush. They get up there, start drinking, and proceed to play a card game. I kid you not. A card game. Wild, just wild, man. Oh, and then spin the bottle. It was 1975. Back then it was like the 1950s. Well, everyone is now drunk and one guy rapes a girl while the others just discuss if they should do something to stop it. Say what? The raped girl gets pregnant and then expelled from school. It's a college, right? I mean, didn't seem to be highly religious but they wereñ't exactly specific on that, either. It does get a bit depressing after that...moral of the story is: if you were a sweet girl while alive you're going to be an evil revenge seeker when you're dead. Just look at the first story. Where's Casper the friendly ghost when you need him? Or that little girl from the Sixth Sense? She was nice.

Seemed more like a comedy in parts than anything. Most likely unintentionally. Some of the acting was awful while other acting was passable to somewhat good. The stories were awful and had no good moral. The music was elevatoresque. Black films usually have great music even if low budget or poorly acted. Not this one.

Overall, it took the concept of 1001 Arabian Nights and destroyed it. Too bad. Could have been good even in the horror genre. There was no real horror until the zombies at the end...

Well, that kid crawling up into his mother's womb was pretty horrific but not in a scary way. More a gross makes me want to regurgitate way.

An old man spins tales to save his life.
michaelRokeefe7 May 2005
Warning: Spoilers
After witnessing a murder, an old homeless man(Wayne Dehart)bargains for his life by telling the killers three stories of horror where the spirits of the wronged seeks revenge. In one tale, a young girl is drowned by cruel friends; in another yarn, a young woman intends a clinical abortion until enduring horrid dreams of giving birth; and the third story is of a small midterm party in a girls dorm that ends in rape and murder. This very low budget item would go better with room temperature Thunderbird in a bag and a platter of hot wings. Its hard to call them actors, but credited as cast members: Staci Harris, Timothy Eric, Tenia Yarbrough and Aziza Anderson.

Ummm production quality is trash. It puts the low in low budget although no boom mikes were seen and lighting was pretty good. And the editing is not bad at all but hey they did way more than I can ever do

Script was hilariously cringey with acting to match. But again the acting wasn't too bad. Very very reminiscent of Tales from the Hood.

I watched it. I have seen low budget movies I had to cut off. Couldn't make it through but this was interesting enough.

Alright for a ripoff
darksyde-6350811 February 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Remember "Tales From The Hood?" if not, it was basically a black version of "Tales From The Crypt" Remember "Snoop Doggs Hood Of Horrors"? Basically a ripoff of "Tales From The Hood" if you haven't seen either of these movies, don't worry. The makers of this movie have. This movie almost completely rips off "Tales from the hood" and also almost has the exact same wrap around story, but is different enough to keep it from going over the line of complete plagiarism, which it straddles uncomfortably close. But having said that, for a ripoff, its not a bad movie.

Why????
izahran-245809 May 2021
I do, understand. That they wanted to make a Horror Film. But, to use every stereotype, that all People of Color find offensive is Repugnant and Self Serving.

Let Me Tell Ya A Story... Or Three!
geminiredblue8 August 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Urban Chills, one of those multi-DVD packs. I recently came across one in a $5 bin at Wal-mart. So I shrugged, got out my wallet, and wondered "How bad could it be?!" Overall, the collection is atrocious. But there are a few genuinely good films hidden among the drek. STREET TALES OF TERROR is one of the better ones.

Three young punks gun down their competition in a supposedly abandoned warehouse. But to their surprise, they discover a homeless man hiding out there. The hobo asks them to spare his life long enough to tell them three horror stories. The first, called "The Reckoning", is about a group of friends who accidentally drown a little girl. Twenty years later, she comes back as a murderous ghost. The second story, called "The Clinic", is about a girl deciding whether or not to abort her baby. Finally, "Graduation Night" is about a group of college kids who participate in a drunken orgy. One of the girls got raped and, soon after, hangs herself. On the night of graduation, the remaining kids go back into the supposedly haunted dorm room. Know what happens next? Overall, the movie's good. Though some of the acting, filming, and scripting could've been better. I did, however, enjoy the finale. I won't give it away except to say the hobo makes it out alive!

Good Effort, Hindered by Budget, Potential
Reviews_of_the_Dead16 May 2024
This is a movie that I learned about when searching for horror films that were either written, directed or featured Black people. The reason being for February and celebration of Black History month. This one had all three and was also a Foray through the Fours movie as well. Other than that, I came in blind, figuring that this would be an anthology film from the synopsis.

Synopsis: a homeless man who sees a murder is forced to entertain his tormentors with three tales of murder, revenge and terror.

We start with what is our wraparound story. J Dog (Corey Shields) is hanging out with Keith (Timothy Eric). They work for Street (Loco). He shows up, asking for his money and they're short. They have until midnight to get it. J Dog picks up his girlfriend, Peaches (Staci Harris) and try to figure out what they'll do. They have a plan that involves murder in an abandoned building. There is a complication. A homeless man, played by Wayne Dehart, was a witness. They're going to get rid of him as well when he offers to tell them stories instead.

Our first story is then called 'The Reckoning'. Jessica (Tenia Yarbrough) and her mother, played by Shirley Whitmore, come home from a funeral for her cousin. Jessica had never seen her mother cry before and it scared her. This younger girl doesn't want to see her mother be that sad anymore. Jessica goes outside where she sees her friend, Judy (Brukie Gashaw). She comes up with her two friends, Demona (Candice Felix) and Tonya (Olivia Reed). This trio is going swimming. Jessica wants to join but can't leave the yard. She does sneak off. The problem is that she cannot swim. Demona pushes her into the pool and this has disastrous results. They get Jessica out of the water, but they leave her there and she passes away. This takes place in 1983 and on the 20th anniversary of her death, Jessica could be back for revenge.

Then up next, we get 'The Clinic'. Jalissa Daniels (Nicole Ford) is there for an abortion. She reveals to the doctor that she had one many years ago when she was 17. She is haunted by this decision and could also be by her unborn child as well.

Our last story before going back to tie up the wraparound is 'Graduation Night'. Bernice (Mykel Gray) is a simple, country girl who is at college. Her roommates are Dora (Candace J. Battle) and Melissa (Aziza Anderson). These two are having people over which include their boyfriends of Harold (Rashad Demond Edwards) and Gerald (Mandell Butler). They're also bringing their friend Big Willie (M. C. Butler) who is an athlete for the college. Should point out that this is set in 1975. They play a drinking game and it gets out of hand with Big Willie taking advantage of Bernice. This causes her to get expelled due to not telling the dean who was behind this get together. Bernice can't deny she was there as she is revealed that she's pregnant. This gets her expelled right before graduation. Her shame causes her to make a horrible decision. She could also be out for revenge.

Now that is where I'll leave my recap of the shorts as well as introductions to our lead characters. Where I want to start with commend the creative team behind this for making a movie. That would include our directors, J. D. Hawkins and Shields, as well as the writing team and all the actors. This does feel inspired by E. C. comics and more recently, Tales from the Hood. We have shorts that are quick hitters, they set up the story and then there's payoff. I will credit them there. We got three stories and the wraparound done in under 90 minutes which I appreciated.

Since we have the same creative team behind all of them, I'm going to just look at this as a movie. I thought that the concepts of these were fine. They are poignant to the title as the set up could happen to us or people we know. The first one has a child drown in a pool. The other kids who caused it did not want to get in trouble, so they left. The second has a young woman faced with a difficult decision and needing to come to terms with it. You can look at this one as not having supernatural elements as well. That is her own guilt causing what she experiences. This is the strongest in my opinion. The last one has plot holes and conveniences in it, but still worked. It feels oddly too close to the first one though. Then our last one has a similar set up and how it plays out like what we got in the original Tales from the Hood. Not exactly, but there are similarities that I noticed.

I do have to say that although I do like what they did here, this falls short with the execution. Part of that is budgetary. They aren't working with a large amount to make things happen to keep the excitement up. I'm not going to hold that against it. They were predictable though. That does hurt it. It struggled to keep my interest due to that though.

Let me then shift away from the stories and go to the acting. The cast is amateurish so I'm not going to harp or pick them apart. I thought that Shields, Eric, Harris, Loco and Dehart were solid for the wraparound. There are a bunch more characters introduced late than I wasn't expecting. That was fun to see to be honest. I'd say all the children in the first story were solid. They seemed like friends. Their adult counterparts matched that. The best performance is in story two with Daniels. The rest of them push her to where she ends up. What I like there is that it might all be in her head, but we see there could be supernatural elements as well. The cast for story three were also fine. No one outside of Daniels stood out, but that's not a slight.

All that is left then is filmmaking. This also could be felt with the budget. The copy on Tubi was a bit muddy so that did affect my viewing a bit. The cinematography is fine. It doesn't do a lot to necessarily stands out. I'd say that the effects were decent. This is something else that the budget isn't helping with. The practical effects work and I'd say the computer effects we got were on par. Other than that, the soundtrack fit for what was needed without necessarily standing out.

In conclusion, this is a movie that I want to commend this team to get together and make. This is held back its budget. It is going for that E. C. comic vibe but doesn't pack the punch that those tend to have. The writing isn't helping as the stories were predictable in my opinion. The acting is amateur so that is all I'll say there. I'd say that their filmmaking aspects show promise. They were just limited in what they could do. Not one that I'd recommend unless you're a fan of microbudget cinema.

My Rating: 3 out of 10.

Go for the BIG SCREEN with this movie
k-bills14 October 2007
This film is simply GREAT; it should be a must for MR. Stephen Spielbrg to view for the BIG SCREEN This team of filmmakers are simply the BEST. This movie should go places beyond our wildest dreams. This movie covers much ground relative in many communities every day. I can imagine much more terror if the budget was bigger. The topic was universal with wonderful actors making it so believable. Great scenes with much creative thinking patterns. The suspense was exciting with a twist of humor. Best Wishes to the Filmmakers and all the team players. You are simply the BEST! Blessings unto you K.Bills

Pretty good horror anthology
Woodyanders7 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
A homeless guy (a lively performance by Wayne Dehart) tells three tales of terror to a trio of foulmouthed street thugs.

First yarn, "The Reckoning" - The ghost of a drowned girl goes after the folks responsible for her death twenty years later. This one suffers from an often painfully plodding pace, but fortunately does deliver an unintentionally hilarious jacuzzi electrocution scene.

Second and best vignette, "The Clinic" - A gal who goes to a clinic to have an abortion has a horrific nightmare about what she's about to do. Absolutely hysterical, with lots of gut-busting bad taste humor and a simply priceless moment with the aborted kid crawling back into mommy's womb (!).

Third anecdote, "Graduation Night" - Another revenge from beyond story, this time with some college students getting bumped off by a vengeful ghost. The cool 70's period atmosphere and several pleasingly nasty murders make this one a winner.

The wraparound segment boasts a great gruesome climax, plus the endearingly amateurish acting from the lame no-name cast provides loads of unintended laughs. A really fun flick.
