It would appear that Satan is pulling double shifts over in Italy as the demand for exorcisms is on the rise. Bad news for him is that he has crappy taste in choosing a location to do it in as he chose to set up shop in the heart of Catholicism. There you have a slew of Catholic priests looking to chew bubble gum and vanquish Satan. And they're all out of Gum. Welcome to the world of exorcism in Federica Di Giacomo's documentary Libera Nos (Deliver Us). Claims of Satanic possession are increasing around the world. In meeting the demands of those desperately seeking help, the Catholic Church responds with the solution they’ve employed for centuries: exorcisms. A new wave of exorcist priests...

A new wave of hero changes for Overwatch‘s Ptr server are due to go live at some point today, Blizzard has confirmed via a post over on Battle.net.
Several characters are receiving tweaks this time around, although new character Orisa looks to be the main target for this particular patch. Officially revealed last week, following several hints and teasers as to who Overwatch‘s next hero would be, Orisa is a quadruped robot created by the child genius Efi Odalele. Joining the likes of Reinhardt and D.Va in the tank role, it looks as if the bot is a little too good right now, with the upcoming changes intending to reduce the magazine size of her Fusion Driver while also increasing the cost of Supercharger by 15%.

How Star Wars, Rogue One, Stranger Things and more are marking the rise of a new wave of Ripleys...
“Is that the only flamethrower?”
Most of us have long heard the fun fact that the role of Ellen Ripley in Ridley Scott’s 1979 masterpiece Alien was originally written for a man. Like Eric Stoltz filming for four weeks as Marty in Back To The Future, it's one of those fun Hollywood tidbits that seems ridiculous now as Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley has become one of the greatest heroes in movie history.
Going on to star in four (rumoured to soon be five) Alien movies, Weaver has been nominated for an Oscar, Golden Globe and BAFTA for her portrayal of this iconic character and its easy to see why. In a world of damsels, love interests and totty, Ripley is a woman: a well rounded, intelligent, confident,...

A new wave of talent looks likely to pick up the top prizes at the Golden Globes, as the film industry aims to put controversies of recent years to rest
Awards season gathers steam on Sunday as Hollywood’s second most significant set of film prizes is handed out. The 74th Golden Globes promise a new emphasis on youth and diversity, in stark contrast to recent years, which have seen all major movie awards bodies dogged by accusations of prejudice and bias.
Yet, as far as the gongs themselves go, the Globes also seem certain to offer a night of no surprises – and certainly no indication of how the Oscars will shake down. Traditionally perceived as a barometer of Academy Awards glory, this year’s edition – because the Globes split their categories into drama and musical/comedy – looks likely to reward both Oscars frontrunners: coming-of-age tale Moonlight and tune-packed romance La La Land.

Many moons ago, as covered in our running Series of Dceu Columns, Mad Max's George Miller was set to direct a little movie called Justice League Mortal. The film, which would've come out smack dab in the middle of Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy, was actually going to introduce mainstream audiences to a completely separate version of Bruce Wayne/Batman. Sets were being constructed, costumes designed, and casting finalized. But then the Writer's Strike happened, Warner Bros. got cold feet, and the project fell apart.

A new wave of women are holding their own with men on the big screen, and the Mission Impossible actor is willing to share the spotlight
Tom Cruise may ... ahem ... get the odd bit of bad press, but he remains Hollywood’s most dependable action hero. There’s been the odd clanger (Oblivion, Knight and Day) in recent times, but the couch-jumping poster boy for Scientology has been on a hot streak of late with last year’s alien invasion romp Edge of Tomorrow and the new Mission: Impossible movie – Rogue Nation, right up there with the best.

I’m trying to figure out which kooky TV show, Bob’s Burgers or Portlandia, has the bigger cult following right now. Regardless, the mash-up of the two via Sleater-Kinney’s latest music video for “A New Wave” is inspired, turning Carrie Brownstein, Corin Tucker, and Janet Weiss into the goofy cartoon characters that classic Simpsons would’ve been all over years ago. “A New Wave” is one of the best tracks on their latest release, No Cities to Love, an early favorite for Best Album of 2015. Watch the video above.

A new wave of controversy surrounding political comedy The Interview has arrived this morning, in the wake of more demands from the cyber-terrorists responsible for the hack. We are undoubtedly living in a “Golden Age” of comic book movies with the success of The Avengers and Christopher Nolan’s Batman Trilogy spurring the development of big budget, high quality films that not only entertain, but also aim to weave together an entire connected universe of events and characters.
But as great as most of these movies are, comics are inherently a serial medium, which means they are a natural fit for television. A two-hour movie might be able to capture the elements of one comic book story, but a comic-turned-television show has the ability to more organically develop its cast of characters over the course of 10 or 20-plus hour-long episodes, while unveiling a story at a pace that is more akin to what the printed medium offers readers every month.
Fortunately, production studios are catching on to this idea. AMC’s The Walking Dead, adapted...

Sonic's back again, and this time he's got a new look, and a CG TV series...
A new wave of Sonic is coming, and it's on the way to a number of platforms, including a new TV CG cartoon. Sonic Boom is being developed by California studio, Big Red button Entertainment, and is the last game in Nintendo's exclusivity deal.
The game features a newly redesigned Sonic and Co., with Knuckles looking particularly different, as if he's been hitting the steroids hard by the looks of it. Sega claims that Sonic Boom will be a totally different experience to previous outings, and it'll make full use of both the Wii U and 3Ds hardware, including 3D support.
Big Red Button is working on the Wii U version of the game, and Sanzaru Games, also based in California, is creating the 3Ds incarnation.
