"Save this lady's farm – job's done." Quiver Distr. has revealed an official trailer for an indie horror comedy called Seven Cemeteries, made by filmmaker John Gulager (a Project Greenlight winner who also made Feast and Piranha 3Dd previously). As with everything else horror, this is set for release in October in time for the horror season. A recent parolee named Bravo gets a Mexican witch to resurrect his old posse so that they can help him save a woman's ranch from a ruthless drug lord. The film is loosely inspired by The Seven Samurai and The Magnificent Seven, as he tries to round up his old gang to get revenge... But of course it's hard to wrangle the (un)dead. Danny Trejo stars as Bravo, with Sal Lopez, Samantha Ashley, Efren Ramirez, Vincent M. Ward, Lew Temple, and Richard Esteras. Not much to see here. Even though they tried to make this all big & crazy,...

Netflix wants to heat up its live programming slate with a red-hot talk show.
The streaming giant is in talks to pick up some live editions of the popular YouTube talk show Hot Ones, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
The show, which is hosted by Sean Evans and produced by BuzzFeed’s First We Feast, sees Evans grill a celebrity guest over spicy chicken wings, with each wing being hotter than the last.
The deal, assuming it comes together, would see Evans host some live versions of the show exclusively for Netflix, as Bloomberg first reported.
Hot Ones has become a bona fide talk show phenomenon with new episodes routinely garnering millions of views on YouTube, with the program now being able to book A-list guests. It was even in the mix for this year’s primetime Emmy Awards, hosting FYC events, though it was ultimately unable to secure a nomination.

Actress and singer Patti LuPone, known for her work in musical theater, criticized reality star Kim Kardashian over her acting abilities. Interestingly, the conversation was about another starlet’s acting abilities. Notably, this isn’t the first time LuPone has talked about Kardashian.
The Conversation Actually Started About Madonna
LuPone appeared on Hot Ones Versus with actress Aubrey Plaza on the First We Feast YouTube channel. Both actresses appeared to promote the Agatha All Along miniseries, a spin-off of WandaVision.

During the game, the two guests must tell the truth or eat a wing, with the winner being the one who eats less wings.
During the show, Aubrey Plaza brought up an appearance LuPone made on Watch What Happens Live where she criticized singer Madonna as an actress. The singer had performed the role of Eva Perón in the film adaptation of Evita, a role which LuPone had originated on Broadway.

It’s been almost 10 years since the first episode of “Hot Ones” hit the internet, and host Sean Evans will be the first to admit that he and his team “did not have high aspirations” for the show at inception. Nonetheless, the YouTube talk show has seemingly cracked the code, becoming a must-stop destination on film press tours — but Evans still feels like he’s “drowning” a bit.
That’s a good thing for the host though. As Evans explained to TheWrap at a Hot Ones live event in Chicago (part of Stella Artois’ ‘Let’s do Dinner Summer Series’), he thinks it’s “healthy” for him and his team to still feel overwhelmed and never like they’re in a rhythm.
“We’re not complacent with the success that we have,” he said. “We’re just trying to week-in and week-out deliver the best possible episode for the fans...

Karma’s a bitch… and she loves a genre flick.
M. Night Shyamalan just put the spotlight back on viral terror with “Trap,” an escape room horror about a killer attempting to outmaneuver the cops at a concert packed with iPhones. In fewer theaters this weekend (but streaming too!) is director Marcus Dunstan’s “#Amfad: All My Friends Are Dead.” That’s another internet horror movie featuring a major pop music event — only here the murderer and their victims never make it inside the venue.
Starring ex-Nickelodeon favorite Jade Pettyjohn and none other than JoJo Siwa herself, “#Amfad” sees its masked villain ensnare a van full of wannabe internet celebs in a “Seven”-esque killing spree at a remote Airbnb. Both former kid-stars-turned-social-media-heavyweights, Pettyjohn and Siwa worked together years ago when the “Dance Moms” legend guest-starred with series regular Pettyjohn on “School of Rock.”

Vince Vaughn is convinced studios want to “overthink” comedies nowadays, especially ones without an IP to fall back on.
The actor — who has appeared in iconic original films such as “Wedding Crashers,” “Old School,” and “Swingers” — explained why there is a lack of modern R-rated comedies in theaters.
“[Studios] just overthink it,” Vaughn said during First We Feast’s “Hot Ones” series. “And it’s like, it’s crazy, you get these rules, like, if you did geometry, and you said 87 degrees was a right angle, then all your answers are messed up, instead of 90 degrees. So there became some idea or concept, like, they would say something like, ‘You have to have an IP.'”
He continued, “The people in charge don’t want to get fired more so than they’re looking to do something great, so they want to kind of follow a set of rules that somehow get set in stone,...

It’s been a couple years since we’ve heard a peep about The Collected, the planned third installment in the horror trilogy that began with The Collector and continued with The Collection. The hotly anticipated film had briefly entered production before shutting down back in 2020, you may recall, but it sounds like it’s getting a second chance at life here in 2024.
Chatting with YouTube’s David Clair-Bennett, director Marcus Dunstan (The Collector, The Collection, #Amfad: All My Friends Are Dead) offers up an exciting update this week.
Dunstan tells the channel, “After five years of Gordian Knot untangling, The Collector is free. The Collector gets to come back. And it is something that… Josh Stewart… we’re pumped… Emma Fitzpatrick… we’re thrilled. We want to come back and do it right.”

Celebrities love to be on “Hot Ones,” the discussion show and pseudo-competition that involves eating chicken wings with varying degrees of heat.
Wall Street is not feeling the same kind of love.
BuzzFeed, the parent company of production firm First We Feast, is struggling to sell the studio behind Hot Ones and other programs acquired through its blockbuster purchase of Complex Networks three years ago.
BuzzFeed dropped $198 million in cash and $96 million in equity to acquire Complex as part of a big bet on web series at a time when the media company’s signature style of “listicles” and groundbreaking investigative journalism wasn’t paying off for its investors.
Then, the thinking seemed to be that BuzzFeed could buy its way into video-based content production and distribution, and the money would follow. Saddled with significant debt,...

After hosting Family Feud for fourteen years, it would seem that nothing would surprise Steve Harvey. However, the shocking answers keep rolling in. After one player gives a disgusting answer, Steve unintentionally cringes while the contestant scrambles to sell him on the answer.
Family Feud Is Never What It Seems
Over the years, Family Feud has caught many viral moments on camera where Steve Harvey reacts to answers. Although the host does his best to keep the show moving, he sometimes can’t manage it without taking a break. Recently, one answer left Steven enraged. Likewise, it isn’t uncommon for Steve to reprimand contestants when they give stupid answers. But Steve is a master at turning things around when families make alarming guesses. When Shirley had her turn in a recent episode, Steve required some convincing when she blurted out a gross answer.

After the horrible incident at the Oscars when he assaulted Chris Rock because of a joke, Will Smith is slowly returning to the scene and is trying to revitalize his career. The actor has effectively been blacklisted since the assault and has been struggling to land a decent job. Sure, the Bad Boys franchise brought him back, but that’s his own franchise, so it makes sense that the producers knew that replacing Smith wouldn’t do them much good. And so, we might be seeing him on screen again more frequently in the upcoming years.
Be that as it may, the actor has once again entered the spotlight and the media are more interested in him as well. In a recent talk in the First We Feast’s “Hot Ones” series, Will Smith talked about his career and he has also picked the best movie he’s starred in,...

Francis Ford Coppola, the fabled director behind classics like The Godfather and Apocalypse Now, has poured 40 years of his life and $120 million of his own money into his latest passion project, Megalopolis. This self-funded sci-fi epic follows an architect with the power to stop time as he attempts to rebuild a devastated metropolis as a utopia, despite facing opposition from the corrupt Mayor.

With a star-studded cast including Adam Driver, Giancarlo Esposito, and Aubrey Plaza, expectations are definitely high for this long-awaited film. Making Megalopolis was an expensive and laborious procedure; thus, its box office performance will have a significant influence on Coppola’s legacy in the future.
Since the movie’s May 16, 2024, Cannes Film Festival premiere, initial reviews have been released, and they are polarizing.

Not to be confused with the 1986 Gary Paulsen novel that was on your fifth-grade reading list, Adam Green's 2007 slasher "Hatchet" was intended to be an homage to the plentiful stalk-and-kill movies from the 1980s. The first "Hatchet" takes place deep in the swamps of Louisana where feckless city-dwellers get lost while taking a swamp tour. They trade stories of Victor Crowley, a local kid with facial differences who, years ago, was trapped in a burning house set ablaze by prankster teens. Crowley was accidentally killed by his father when he recklessly used a hatchet to free him from the fire. Victor's spirit is now said to haunt the swamp and murder interlopers. Of course, Victor will appear to start the predicted murders.
Victor Crowley was played by stuntman Kane Hodder, perhaps best known for playing the masked killer Jason Voorhees in "Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood,...

Gwyneth Paltrow understands that good films aren’t necessarily $300 million productions.
Appearing on First We Feast’s Hot Ones, hosted by Sean Evans, she was asked about director Cord Jefferson’s recent Oscar speech.
Jefferson won the Best Adapted Screenplay award for American Fiction, and used the platform to beg Hollywood for budget sanity. “Instead of making one $200 million movie, try making 20 $10 million movies,” he said in his acceptance speech.
Paltrow starred as Pepper Potts in the Iron Man films, as well as in other MCU films including Spider-Man: Homecoming and Avengers: Endgame.
Paltrow agreed with Jefferson’s sentiments.
“I absolutely understand where he’s coming from,” Paltrow said. “You want the best chance to have a strong Roi. People put a lot of money into these things and they want them to be profitable.

Ben Affleck’s Only Horror Movie Was So Bad It Couldn’t Even Earn More Than $10 Million at Box Office
Ben Affleck’s done a lot in Hollywood, you know? He’s been in all sorts of movies, from those big action flicks to the tear-jerker dramas. But when the 51-year-old dipped his toes into horror with Phantoms back in ’98, it didn’t quite hit the mark.
Ben Affleck in Justice League
The movie just couldn’t grab people’s attention, making less than 10 million bucks at the box office. Even though it had a cool idea and Affleck’s star power, Phantoms just didn’t live up to the hype, ending up as one of those forgettable horror flicks. It’s kinda curious why folks didn’t vibe with it and what it says about the actor’s career in movies.
Ben Affleck’s Sole Horror Movie Outing Was a Complete Flop
Ben Affleck tried his hand at horror, and let’s just say it didn’t end well.

It is common knowledge how FromSoftware and its CEO Hidetaka Miyazaki directed their games to be intensely difficult intentionally. Ranging from the Dark Soul series, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and their latest Elden Ring title, all the games pose a challenge in their own right, all to give the player a great sense of achievement once they are done with the game.
As obvious, this difficulty should not be treated lightly. Elden Ring in particular is produced in a way that the player would be filled with rage as he continues his play through. Many famous YouTubers, including DrDisRespect, have seemed to try out the game for themselves, but much without success in their first time.

Exclusive: ITV’s drama about Ruth Ellis, the last woman hanged in Britain, is gathering pace and we have an exclusive first-look image of Lucy Boynton in the title role. Scroll down to view it.
The series, which has changed title to A Cruel Love: The Ruth Ellis Story, is set in 1955 in the glamorous and intoxicating world of London club-land. Ellis was the capital’s youngest club manager but her success soon unraveled as she became entwined in an abusive relationship with racing driver David Blakely. On trial for his murder, she was condemned to hang by a system which judged her for far more than her crime, and she became the last woman to be hanged in Britain.

Feast, the new Filipino entry on Netflix, seems like a film that is heavily inspired by the works of the legendary Hirokazu Koreeda. It lacks the subtlety and finesse that are usually seen in Koreeda’s film, which makes it just about a decent watch and nothing more. But the film hinges on a (literally) killer twist in the end, if you know what I mean. And despite providing us with enough breadcrumbs throughout the story, Feast pulls it off pretty well. We’re going to look into the twist and what it really means for the characters.

Whereas splatter movies wield gore and carnage like a weapon to evoke a visceral response, splatter comedies push the onscreen violence and gore into outlandish territory for the sake of a hearty laugh. Peter Jackson and Sam Raimi, for example, began their filmmaking careers defining the modern splatter comedy with their early works, pushing the boundaries of taste, horror, and humor through cartoonish bloodletting.
This week brings the arrival of a new splatter-comedy, Destroy All Neighbors, presenting the perfect excuse to laugh your way through the excess entrails and arterial spray the niche subgenre has to offer. These five splatter comedies vary in style and tone, but all seek to tickle your funny bone through humor, fun, and a whole lot of guts.

With “Wish,” Disney Animation celebrates its 100th anniversary by merging the 2D legacy of watercolor background paintings (dating back to “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”) with cutting-edge CG. The result was a revitalization of the retro aesthetic in every department to better display the hand of the artist. Like a gateway drug, it has already carried over into an as-yet-unannounced feature with a very different 2D look.

Today, we’re going to shine the spotlight on one of those projects. A film where Englund plays a weaselly projectionist who traps Finn Jones in a movie theatre overnight. It...

On October 13, 2023, Apple TV+ premiered “Lessons in Chemistry” starring Oscar winner Brie Larson. The limited series set in the early 1950s follows Elizabeth Zott (played by Larson), whose dream of being a scientist is put on hold in a patriarchal society. When Elizabeth finds herself fired from her lab, she accepts a job as a host on a TV cooking show, and sets out to teach a nation of overlooked housewives — and the men who are suddenly listening — a lot more than recipes.” The ensemble cast includes Lewis Pullman, Aja Naomi King, Stephanie Koenig and Patrick Walker.
Critics have praised the latest Apple limited series, landing the show at 80% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. The critics consensus says, “Touching on several hot button issues while benefitting immensely from a perfect pinch of Brie Larson, ‘Lessons in Chemistry’s’ ambitious ingredients add up to satisfying entertainment.” Read our full review round-up below.

For Elizabeth Zott (Brie Larson), the intrepid heroine of Apple TV+’s Lessons in Chemistry, perfection is the ultimate goal. By the time we meet her, she’s made the same lasagna dish 78 times — each time with subtle and meticulously documented tweaks, in pursuit of a recipe that can’t possibly be further improved upon.
As evidenced by his obvious delight as Calvin (Lewis Pullman) sinks his teeth into her latest effort, though, a dish doesn’t need to be perfect to be pleasurable. Neither does a TV series. Lessons in Chemistry is far from flawless; even those (like me) who’ve never read the Bonnie Garmus novel on which it’s based will be able to feel the seams where the source material and the adaptation do not quite mesh. Nevertheless, it’s worth tucking into, thanks to an endearing cast, witty dialogue and easily digestible themes.

When you look closely at a set of lyrics, it’s astounding how much a classic rock song can get misinterpreted. For example, the original version of Elvis Presley’s “Hound Dog” was about a gigolo. However, a band changed the lyrics to be about an actual dog and the rest is history. In addition, a famous television appearance might’ve made audiences think “Hound Dog” is about a canine.
The original version of Elvis Presley’s ‘Hound Dog’ was about a freeloader
Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller co-wrote “Hound Dog,” which was first recorded by Big Mama Thornton. During a 2020 interview with Elvis Australia, Stoller discussed the evolution of the song’s lyrics. “Elvis knew Big Mama’s record, but Big Mama’s version of ‘Hound Dog’ was written for a woman,” he said. “And so Elvis couldn’t perform it that way.

Mannequin Pussy are back, and angrier than ever. The Philadelphia-based punk rock band released their new single “I Got Heaven” with an accompanying video directed by Mason Merce and Anthony Miralles.
“I Got Heaven” is immediately explosive, with lead singer and guitarist Marisa “Missy” Dabice screaming the opening lines, “I went and walked myself/Like a dog without a leash” and asking, “What if Jesus himself ate my fucking snatch?” within the first verse. It’s intense and angry, as intended.

It took 19 years for Freddy Krueger from "A Nightmare on Elm Street" and Jason Voorhees from "Friday the 13th" to finally clash on the big screen. And let's face it: the two horror titans, the definitive monsters of '80s cinema, were always destined to duke it out. The fans demanded it, and the studios involved knew it would make bank. The perfect storm. It was just a matter of when. But this guaranteed success suffered in development hell throughout the '90s as writers and directors came and went, a rotating door of noteworthy (and not-so-noteworthy) talent that tried to crack the indelible premise of these two iconic characters battling to the death and transform it into an actual, workable movie.
And after so many folks tried and failed, writers Damian Shannon and Mark Swift finally cracked the code, and director Ronny Yu translated it to the screen. And...

Morgan Wallen’s two-year-old son, Indigo, was taken to the emergency room on Monday after a dog bit him on his face.
The country singer shares Indigo with his ex-fiancee, influencer KT Smith, who owns the dog. Smith said their child was given stitches at the emergency room but that “he should be okay.”
The dog, a Great Pyrenees named Legend, was rescued by Smith last year and said that she and Legend “kind of saved each other.”
The social media influencer, who is based in Tennessee, took to her Instagram stories to share updates about the unfortunate event and asked her followers for advice about what to do with Legend, adding that she did not want to euthanize him, contrary to what some of her fans advised her.
‘”[Legend} does not deserve that because he is wonderful and could do really great with a family who doesn’t have small children,” Smith said.

As part of the final full day of the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, Disney debuted a whopping 20 minutes of its upcoming animated feature “Wish.” Meant as a celebration of Walt Disney Animation Studio’s legacy, with nods to its illustrious past, it also marks a bold step forward visually for the studio, incorporating a painterly art style that sets it apart from virtually every other computer-animated movie in the library.
Originally announced at D23 Expo in 2022, back then what exactly “Wish” was remained fuzzy. During that presentation, it was mentioned that the movie would make nods to the company’s past but that it would be an original musical fairy tale, full of characters both dashing and devilish. Also that it would serve as a kind of origin story for the wishing star that has been featured in so many Disney classics. It was intriguing and confounding in equal measure.

Netflix’s “Nimona” marks an LGBTQ breakthrough for a mainstream animated film. Based on Nd Stevenson’s best-selling queer graphic novel about the titular teen shapeshifter (Chloë Grace Moretz) in a futuristic medieval world, “Nimona” explores timely issues of identity and xenophobia. It additionally pushes 2D stylization into 3D with a uniquely illustrated look.
“Nimona” is also a minor miracle. It was rescued from the dead by Annapurna Animation and Netflix after Disney halted production in 2021 when they shuttered Fox-owned Blue Sky Studios, where the project originated. As it was, the film’s LGBTQ themes were watered down and a same-sex kiss between bestie knights (voiced by Riz Ahmed and Eugene Lee Yang) was a cause of concern at Disney.
But former Blue Sky co-presidents Andrew Millstein and Robert Baird refused to let “Nimona” die in 2021. Together with producer Julie Zackary and directors Nick Bruno and Troy Quane (“Spies in Disguise...

“Nimona” is nearly here. And before it hits the streaming service next month, Netflix has just unleashed a new trailer for the animated feature that gives viewers a taste of its world and introduces the titular shapeshifting teen (voiced by Chloë Grace Moretz). You can watch the new teaser below.
The trailer is pretty inventive, with a paper cutout introduction to the world of “Nimona” – it takes place in The Kingdom, a kind of futuristic medieval society that has been trained to fear a race of mythical creatures. (They have erected a massive wall – sound familiar?) A disgraced, one-armed knight who was framed for murder (Riz Ahmed), winds up befriending Nimona, who turns out to be one of these creatures – she can shapeshift into virtually anything or anyone. Together, they both are searching for acceptance – and to clear their respective names.

Survivor contestants endure being stranded on a deserted island and dealing with treacherous weather conditions. But that’s not all. In addition to following strict rules — like being allowed only two luxury items and not talking to the crew — players must compete in various challenges. One of the most notorious is the “Piranha Feast.” And it’s as disgusting as it sounds.
What is the ‘Survivor’ challenge Piranha Feast? ‘Survivor: South Pacific’ castmates Jim Rice, Whitney Duncan, Keith Tollefson, Dawn Meehan, and Elyse Umemoto | Monty Brinton/CBS via Getty Images
This recurring Survivor challenge involved contestants using their mouths to rip hunks of meat off a large roasted animal and placing them into a basket. The tribe with the most meat in the basket when the timer stopped won.
The CBS reality TV show introduced the Piranha Feast — also known as “Hungry for Love” and “Pig Out” — in season 6, Survivor: The Amazon.

Welcome to the Ghostface Glossary, a guide to every horror reference and nod throughout the first five films of the Scream franchise.
After a lot of pausing, rewinding, and zooming in, as well as researching, we’re catching all of the many horror-specific references Williamson, Craven, and Co. included in this beloved postmodern slasher franchise. If we’ve forgotten any glaring ones, kindly let us know.
This guide will exclude homages from previous Scream films and their respective sequels— we’re only looking at outside horror franchises and inspirations, because any red-blooded Ghostface fan is likely already aware of those. (Goes without saying that the beloved faux franchise ‘Stab’(s) 1-8 will also not be counted, since, even though our neon green ‘Stab’ t-shirts and mock VHS tapes feel very real, it’s still a very fake franchise). A big budget Thai/Chinese co-production, this year’s brand new monster movie The Lake has now unleashed a brand new trailer, this one equipped with English subtitles.
It’s also a much better trailer all around, giving us several clear shots of the incredible practical monster designed by artist Jordu Schell (Cloverfield, The Thing, Starship Troopers, The Mist, Feast, Avatar, Men in Black, Planet of the Apes, The Cabin in the Woods, Predators).
The monster in The Lake was brought to life using practical life-sized animatronics alongside CGI, and the glimpses we get of the beast here are absolutely jaw-dropping to behold.
In The Lake, “One child brings back a strange egg, soon realizing that it’s a monster egg. It emerged from the lake, and it now wants to kill everyone in the whole town.”
The film released theatrically in Thailand on August 18, with no U.S. date at this time.
