It Cheered Me Up

Cliff Bowes and Vivian Vance get married, but romantic rival Eddie Boland isn't ready to accept the situation. When the newlyweds arrive at their honeymoon cottage, Boland lurks outside and in the basement to bedevil them.

It's a Cameo Comedy from Educational Pictures: a one-reel comedy, and it's a tightly organized one, with one gag I have never seen before; experts Ben Model and Steve Massa found it likewise novel. There's a fine supporting cast, including Frank Alexander, Tommy Hicks and Sid Smith to round out the fun.

The plot is only okay...the gags are pretty clever!

"Cheer Up" is a wonderful comedy whose plot is only fair but the gags were amazingly clever and unique.

The film begins by learning that the girl needs to get married to receive some inheritance. But she has no idea which suitor to marry...so she invites them both to the house. She then picks Cliff Bowes as her new hubby. But the lover who loses her is NOT about to accept it and instead rushes over to sabotage their new house.

The plot, as I mentioned, is just okay. But you just have to see the gags...such as the necktie and especially the drill routine. They are bizarre and quite funny...and make this one worth your time.
