Sex & Nudity

  • In a flashback scene, a man and a woman are shown having sex, and her breasts are sort of visible. This only last a few seconds though as the man falls asleep in the middle of it.
  • A woman watches a sex tape on her computer, on the clip of the tape we are shown, the couple are under the covers so nothing but their faces and arms are seen.
  • A woman's bare breast and buttocks are visible as she takes a shower and is spied on by the killer.
  • Some sex references and comments such as "Hey Santa, if I sit on your lap will you give me what I want". Nothing too bad though.
  • A woman finds out that her boyfriend used to secretly record sex tapes with his girlfriends, she gets upset over it, dumps him and brings it up once or twice later in the film.
  • Unrated Version: There is an additional scene where it is heavily implied a sleeping woman is molested by the killer.

Violence & Gore

  • A woman backs up into a garage door and an icicle breaks off, stabbing her in the eye and killing her. Another woman later slips on her pool of blood.
  • A man is killed by a drill (offscreen) while his blood splatters on his egg nog and table of medical instruments.
  • A man is shoved over a railing and is impaled on a Christmas tree, his entrails visible as they splatter over the tree top.
  • Unrated Version: a woman has her eyes gouged out by a glass unicorn while sleeping in her bed. Her eyeless corpse is discovered later on.
  • A woman has a garbage bag violently wrapped around her head, but she manages to escape. She briefly engages in a fight with the killer by smacking them with a hockey stick and before she can escape through a window, is scalped by an ice skate thrown at her head, her open skull and brain matter briefly visible.
  • The killer decorates a gory Christmas tree with corpses around the sides, a decapitated head as the tree topper and ripped out eyes that were collected from their victims as tree ornaments.
  • In terms of violence shown in the movie, nothing is left to the imagination.
  • The gore can be very strong at times (this film is very much gorier in comparison to the original), but is infrequent and most of the goriest parts occur offscreen.
  • A woman has a plastic bag violently wrapped around her head. After being strangled for a few seconds, a fountain pen is stabbed into her eye.
  • A woman has a plastic bag wrapped around her head, and then the killer stabs her repeatedly with a glass ornament (offscreen, but blood splashes onto the items onscreen) and forcibly rips out her right eye, the optic nerve briefly visible.
  • A man is stabbed to death in the neck with a sharpened candy cane.
  • A man dressed in a Santa Clause costume is killed offscreen, his blood splatters all over the floor. His corpse in a garbage bag is later thrown into a dumpster.
  • A young boy witnesses his father get strangled with a bag wrapped around his head, then bludgeoned to death with a hammer, and then his corpse messily buried in the crawl space.
  • A woman is forcibly pulled into an underground crawlspace by the killer. The two fight, with the killer shoving and rubbing her head into the dirt, and the woman gets a garden tool and stabs the killer in the arm with it, but the killer takes the tool and stabs her in the back of the head, killing her.
  • Two women open a car door, and a woman's severed head rolls out. It is later hung on a Christmas tree.
  • A woman is killed offscreen in a car. An absurd amount of her blood splatters onto the windshield as she screams bloody murder.
  • A man is briefly strangled with a garbage bag wrapped around his head before the killer stabs him in the head with a glass ornament, rips out his eyes, and eats them.
  • UK Version: A woman has a plastic bag pulled over her head, the killer them gouges out one of her eyes, eats it, shoves their fingers into her eye sockets and drags her along the floor by her empty eye-sockets while she screams and struggles.
  • A dead body is discovered on a bed with bloody and empty eye sockets.
  • Three people are pinned in between two walls. A flaming Christmas tree comes down and burns two of them.
  • A woman has her neck snapped.
  • One woman is shocked to death by defibrillator paddles.
  • UK Version: A badly burned body is in a hospital while doctors try to revive him with defibrillators, but they fail.
  • In a flashback scene, a teenage boy pulls out his sister's eye (offscreen) and eats it (onscreen). He then shoves a spiked Christmas decoration through his step father's eye and strangles his abusive mother with Christmas lights. He then beats her to death with a rolling pin (offscreen). He then gets a cookie cutter and cuts shapes out of her back and cooks them in the oven. We later see him eating the cooked flesh with milk.

Profanity

  • A fair amount of swearing, apparently 34 uses of 'fuck'.
  • A few uses of 'shit'.
  • Other milder language is occasionally used such as 'bitch' and 'bollocks'.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • A woman in the film is a frequent chain smoker.
  • A girl is shown smoking a cigarette.
  • At the beginning, almost all of the characters are seen drinking wine.
  • Two girls take shots of tequila.
  • A young woman is drinking to the point where she gets drunk and throws up a few times.
  • A bong can be seen (but is not used) in a flashback sequence.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Though more gory than scary, there are a few jump scares.
  • Plenty of intense and scary scenes, such as the crawl space and attic sequences, especially for people with claustrophobia.
  • The film is more gory rather than scary, bordering on torture porn, and said gore can be very strong and may scare young children or the squeamish.
  • The flashbacks to the killer's abusive childhood are disturbing.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Sex & Nudity

  • In a flashback scene, it is heavily implied a 12 year old sleeping boy is raped by his mother. We see the mother going up to the attic and it is implied the boy is sleeping in a rocking chair. We see the mother take off her nightgown in front of the chair and the rocking chair moving back and forth. Then flashback flashes forward to 9 months later with the birth of a baby girl.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • We find out about a boy who is abused by his mother who hates him, witnesses his mother and her boyfriend kill his father and then is neglected and abused by his parents even to the point of being raped by his mother (this may have been just once or a regular thing, it's up to the viewers interpretation). He gets his mother pregnant (from her raping him) and his daughter/sister is brought up to be spoiled and loved without even being aware of her father/brother's existence as he is locked away in the attic.
