Visually entertaining in black and white and musically entrancing
mackmanx29 December 2005
The performers leave an impression and I may be biased at Amapola's performance. Considering this has only been her second full length film as female lead, not only is she visually interesting, her performance compensated for the fact that the film was drama and her forte is comedy (based on her daily television shows during that era).

The film is rife with choppy editing, lots of obviously impromptu camera-work and sudden bursts of eccentricities on the part of their cast. I was warned that this movie was shot with a stringent budget.

Though the story of this love triangle was fun to follow through its self-conscious cliché, movie's chief pleasures were musical, Wood in his jukebox renditions and Amapola in her ballad best.

Black and White Beauty
mackmanx-112 December 2005
Remarkable improvements have been made with color films over the years - from the realistic cinematography of The Godfather Trilogy to the vivid palette of Dick Tracy. However, I truly miss and still mourn the death of Black and White films. "You Are My Destiny" was shown to me in Black and White and although I was warned it was a low budget fast film (as in fast food), I enjoyed the movie and the beauty of the female cast, including Ms Amapola (aka Amapola Cabase)who was striking in black and white. I especially enjoyed You Are My Destiny for the glimpse of life in the provinces of the Philippines, ably captured by Director Garcia. Here's hoping someone will revive this artsy black and white film and show it internationally.

Where can I get the DVD
issamann29 June 2013
I am to write ten lines of text. I have nothing to say yet because i haven't seen the film but i have seen Amapola videos and I like her musical performances especially when she plays many instruments. A very talented lady.

I have looked for Amapola's films in DVD retail or AMC Classic but i've been unlucky. Will someone please let me know. I'm a big Amapola fan. My mother mentioned her films a long time ago she said when she used to watch it on afternoon drama on TV. I thought it would be easy to find and would be available on Netflix or even eBay I haven't found one yet. I'd appreciate the information. Thank you.

Poignant

This movie opened as a Valentine presentation, a very big day for sentimental and romantic films in the Philippines. I had the good fortune of viewing a badly copied video of this film on one of my visits to Manila. Then I saw the film again in one of the afternoon classic movie channels there. One would think it was a corny representation of a love story whose plot had been repeated tirelessly time and time again. It started that way for me because being a fan of Amapola the live concert performer would lead me to view anything she makes. I persevered and found myself in rapt attention of the film (even without subtitles!). Perhaps I am a biased Amapola fan? Maybe, but the the film was very entertaining!

Time for a wonderful remake!

I was a child and my family lived in Manila when this film came out. My parents were fans of Amapola and Victor Wood. It was a day out for the family and I enjoyed the film then. The stars in the film Victor Wood and Amapola are still very much in the business, the former a TV commentator and the latter singing on board cruise ships, that's why I was thinking this film is ready for a remake with the same lead stars! It would be sensational for their fans! This film feeds the imagination of what real lives of real people in the Philippines are like. I also like that the characters break into song at the right moments, kind of like the drama or comedy musicals of old MGM!
