Totally bizarre and an odd style, but a very good film

Warning: Spoilers
This is one of the weirder animated shorts I have seen in some time. The artistic style is just too bizarre for words, though I'll try to explain. The film is made with no dialog and the only sound is some very discordant organ music. This actually works pretty well with the animation, as the ultra-modern robotic type world in the film seems perfectly suited to the music. Prospective parents arrive at a eugenics lab where they have come to pick out their child. Oddly, the parents and workers look more like robotic Weebles than people--perhaps they're the result of too much genetic manipulation! Regardless, you get to see the parents as they shop like they are buying groceries in this mostly black and white future world. They pick out arms, legs, a head, etc. and they give it to a strange looking nurse for final assembly and the results are a bit discouraging to say the least!

The artistic style is really neat, though I could imagine some viewers finding it too strange to enjoy. You really need a slightly warped mind to enjoy this (and I sure did, so what does that say about me?). And, in addition to making an artistic statement, I really liked the film because down deep it also had a lot to say about our society's ability to create "boutique babies". This would be a great film paired with GATTACA--making it a great prelude to this feature film.

Pretty stylish

Warning: Spoilers
Sometimes, visuals alone are strong enough to carry a whole film. And this short by Philippe Grammaticopoulos works so well mostly due its stylish animation and bizarrely surreal, yet at the same time elegant imagery.

It's strange how it manages to be simultaneously ominous and darkly humorous at the same time, with a heavy component of irony to contrast the eerie elements of the plot. (While I'm not entirely sure about Imdb labelling this as "horror", a couple of moments were a bit haunting, especially the smiling eyeless kid at the end)

A shame Grammaticopoulos hasn't directed any new animation since the year 2009; I think he has enough creative vision to became a sucessor of René Laloux in the field of surreal science fiction animation.

I sincerely hope to have the chance to see another short or film by him anytime in the future.

provocative

For many reasons, a provocative short animation. First for graphic, than for characters, not less for way to use the idea of parenthood. But correct and fascinating. In many ways, for music, especially. A bizarre fairy tale.
