Pretty poor show

Where do I start? The acting probably. It was rather poor and unconvincing. None of the players was in the least bit professional.

The storyline could have been fascinating but was spoilt by clichés and inconsistencies. It was all so formulaic.

Two non-believable scènes took place. One was the ridiculous attempt by Tom to show he was a hetero and one of the lads. And even more stupid was that they appeared to believe him. The other was when Nikias failed to lock the door in his dressing room of a crowded nightclub. It just didn't compute.

So, although I sat through the whole film, I wouldn't advise anyone else to do so.

Nothing to brag about indeed

Warning: Spoilers
This 19-minute short film "Out Now" was made 10 years ago by writer Sven J. Matten and the directors duo Schulte/Töpke. It basically tells us the story of Tom, a teenager who is about to discover his (homo)sexuality. Short films are a popular genre for this topic and this film here has basically all the ingredients: boys drooling over naked women in a magazine, a masculine sport like football, bullying and assaulting in a shower, allegedly very male guys being really gay and a stupid love story. Also the world must be very small if the guy you chat with (and have no clue who he is) is actually a fellow student in your class.

The football trainer said at one point that something (not the homosexuality) is nothing to brag about and this can also be said about this short film here. The script is really disastrous. The actors are slightly better, but not by much. It does absolutely not come as a surprise that nobody who worked on this movie (cast and crew) had a mentionable career in the last 10 years. Some of them (the lead actor for example) even quit movies completely. This film is an absolutely unrealistic mess from start to finish with zero creativity. Highly not recommended. I see that the director has a couple more films in his body of work that evolve around homosexuality. I guess that is his niche and he makes use of the fact that unfortunately people often approve of these films only because of the topic, even if they have zero filmmaking value at all. "Out Now" fits this description perfectly. Do yourself a favor and stay away.

decent

Not memorable , not impressive. Only a decent short film, using a too, too familiar recipe about to be different, bullying, revelation, friendship, need to be accepted by other and the huge mistake , the true love and the declaration to the chosen one. Sure, all is known and almost boring. But it works in reasonable manner, remaining only a sketch, proposing the story to its precise target and giving not amazing performances.
