- The show uses the Battlestar Galactica narrative structure of a group of people escaping destruction and fleeing to Earth, only to be pursued by their attackers. In the case of Vifam, it's a group of up to 13 children, which includes a few teenagers. As such, the scenario is a lot more intense and the kids are often in peril and facing constant death.

- The main adults die one after another in the earlier episodes because of the alien attacks. The kids are left to fend off for themselves for the majority of the series.
