Unforgettable
corrosion-220 September 2009
This is one of the best Iranian movies ever. I saw it when it came out first and caused a lot of controversy. It is almost impossible to find this film now anywhere and any version found is likely to be a heavily censored one. No other movie in Iranian cinema has managed to so brilliantly convey the class differences in Iran. The story concerns a vagrant (Morteza Aghili) who comes across an attractive American tourist (Susan Gilber). Neither can speak each other's language but somehow he gathers that she's flying back home to US next morning. He manages to express his desire for her and she consents to having sex with him prior to her departure. For the rest of the film we follow his ever more desperate attempts to find a place where they can be alone together. Although she even volunteers to pay for the hotel room, being unmarried and with his social standing, even a hotel room is difficult to get. They find refuge in the house of the rich employees of the vagrant's father. But while the rich man's sons take the girl upstairs to their bedroom the vagrant is left urinating in their swimming pool in frustration. The ending is absolutely unforgettable. If you are lucky to find an uncensored copy, do not miss it on any accounts.
