I really like the old character actors, and any episode with Leo Gordon automatically gets 3 extra stars. Today he plays a retired cop who kills drunks.

Big Brutes And Blonde Bombshells

This episode features two very different slime balls. Leo Gordon portrays one, an ex-cop who really, REALLY hates bad guys. Shelly Berman plays the other, a rat-fink Talent Scout. He mistreats a potential client to the point that that client pulls out a gun and shoots up the nearest communications device.
Malloy and Reed park the car well out of sight, blocking an alley and irritating a couple who are trying to get past. Seems Malloy is in the mood for a mid-day stroll. Just in time to go window shopping and window reflecting. A local bum gets stabbed and Malloy suspects a former cop turned vigilante-wannabe. Oddly, Reed doesn't buy into Malloy's suspicion.
It's interesting to see Reed wandering off with his own thoughts and partially befriending the Big Brute who just wants to do the right thing. Well, his own warped version of the right thing, that is.
Apparently the production was given free-reign over L. A.'s Union Station for a day. They make the most of it. First our Heroes take down a female shooter. Oh, but she's a cute 19 year old blonde bombshell from the state of Meh-zer-ah, so no handcuffs needed here. Afterall, she's merely rendered a phonebooth unuseable. Phonebooths will be a thing of the past in 53 years time.
Later, Adam-12 drops off the Big Brute ex-cop at Union Station. He wants to go rattlesnake hunting. First though, Malloy has to give the Brute some advice and does so with a most condescending, snarky, "you're not fit to shine my badge" attitude. Reed looks on, still thinking Big Brute is getting the wrong end of several deals.
Malloy receives a tiny punishment for his having been a meanie. Stopped for a bite to eat, Malloy raises a tasty-looking burger to his watering mouth just as the car radio calls out. For unknown reasons, the partners both abandon their burgers instead of taking them with. Has Sergeant MacDonald forbidden food in his squad cars?
In the end, the viewing audience learns to stick by Officer Malloy's snarkiness. He nails it when it comes to his judgement of the Big Brute ex-cop. Reed was wrong. But then, both partners are wrong when neither bothers to pick up a discarded gun in the concluding moments of the episode. An otherwise "7" episode gets knocked down to "6" for that blunder. But that blonde sure was cute. Back up to a "7" because of her!

Jack Donohue is a ex-cop. He now lives in skid-row. He is a trouble-maker who engages in criminal activity where the police are often called in to check that things are "OK".
In the meantime - Miss Ada Hays from Missouri is down at Union Station shooting up a phone booth 'cause her shifty agent, Phil Duke has done her a wrong turn.
