Kent McCord is taken hostage in bank. He plays thugs against each other. Martin Milner works to save him. Good suspense.

Excellence All Around!

Warning: Spoilers
This episode of Adam-12 deviates from the norm by not featuring Malloy and Reed responding to any radio calls. None that are directed at them anyway. After a quick scene set at the Station out by the squad cars, we find M & R a little later in the day, commenting that patrol has been very quiet so far.

Reed asks Malloy to swing over by Reed's bank so that he can deposit a paycheck and make the final payment on his car. Malloy obliges and soon Reed is wandering into his bank, right smack into an in-progress hold-up.

Actor Leo Gordon returns as a guest star yet again to Adam-12. He usually plays rough, tough, mean and surly types. He's back at it again in this episode as one of two bank robbers. His character is right there, shotgun in hand, to greet Reed when he enters the bank, "Hold it right there, Blue Boy!" Through-out the ordeal, Gordon's fresh-out-of-the-joint character, Cleve, refers to Reed either as "Blue Boy" (referring to Reed's blue police uniform) or "Pig". (No, Cleve never calls Reed "McCord" - that would be GOOFy.)

Kent McCord as Officer Reed gets to do some action acting. Reed belts Cleve, fights with him, kicks him. Great stuff. McCord also gets in some quiet time acting as Reed attempts to convince Cleve's partner to help take Cleve down.

Martin Milner also gets some great scenes, in which he gets to show some range not usually seen in his Malloy character. Worry, contemplation and plotting. There's a terrific final take down scene with Milner suddenly appearing like a jack-in-the-box.

The concluding scene set in a hospital is a little puzzling. Somehow Malloy is able to present Reed with the pink slip (or payoff slip) to Reed's car. But Reed never was able to deposit his paycheck prior to being taken out of the bank by the robbers as a hostage. Reed conducted no business at the bank at all. So why did the bank part with the pink slip which could not have had it's final payment made?

That's very minor though. Everything else about this episode is absolute top-notch. Fun, suspenseful and exciting. Milner, McCord, Gordon and Boyett (Sergeant MacDonald) are all absolutely excellent in this episode. Terrific writing, production and direction.

Leo Gordon

Warning: Spoilers
This was a good episode. The whole thing with Officer Pete Malloy in the trunk of the getaway car was a little hokey. Where did Officer Pete Malloy get the keys to a stolen vehicle? And would Sergeant McDonald really allow them to drive away like that? By the way, whoever decided that these reviews have to be over five hundred characters takes the fun out of reviewing these episodes. We aren't novelists here, just people that like to watch old shows. So, I'm filling here. There's really not much more to say except that Leo V. Gordon is my absolute favorite character actor from this era. Everything he did was really good.
