Having established the basic dramatic premise in the first episode, #2 introduces the main comic elements: Siegfried's brother Tristan, and the dog known as Tricki-Woo.
There's a lot more than that, of course, but the main thing is that the show steps up from being a good character-driven drama to being a good character-driven drama with warmly comic moments -- not to mention all the period detail (note the cars!) and animal-care realism. And of course: like all the series, filmed in the all-too-real environment of the Yorkshire dales, right where the books take place.
The only thing left to add is a romantic aspect, and that begins in episode 3 ....
