Beverly LaSalle returns
Jimmy_the_Gent418 March 2018
Archie is tired of being the butt of Pinky Peterson's practical jokes so he sets him up on a date with Beverly LaSalle, the female impersonator whose life Archie once saved.

The Beverly LaSalle character previously appeared in Season six's funniest episode "Archie The Hero" and this is an OK episode though not as good as the prior one. Eugene Roche debuts as the obnoxious Pinky Peterson, though his jokes are pretty lame (they couldn't come up with any better than joy buzzers and kick me signs?). This makes Archie into a pathetic victim rather than tough fighter from years ago. Still though this episode gets silly it still has more laughs than most of the later seasons.

Revenge is Devine. Not really It's Lori Shannon. No it's really Don Seymour Mclean!

If you prick us do we not bleed? If you tickle us do we not laugh? If you poison us do we not die? And if you wrong us shall we not revenge? In this episode Archie (Carroll O'Connor) is the butt end of Prankster Pinky Peterson's (Eugene Roche) escapades involving a wooden box with a mongoose supposedly inside. Archie falls for the joke hook, line and sinker to the delight of the gang down at Kelsey's Bar. Meanwhile back on Hauser Street , Wife Edith (Jean Stapleton) is vacuuming her living room when the doorbell rings. To her amazement an old friend appears in woman's clothing. It's female impersonator Beverly LaSalle (Lori Shannon , AKA Don Seymour Mclean). Beverly wants to repay the Bunkers for Archie's life saving rescue from a year ago. As Beverly explains how she or he collapsed in Archie's cab and how Archie revived her or him? It's the anniversary of that day and Beverly wants to treat the Bunkers to a dinner in the restaurant of their choice. Archie arrives home a short time later and has a brain storm. Revenge on Pinky, (who by the way is not married), but has a steady girl friend Doris. Archie claims to Pinky there is no hard feelings and he would like to take Pinky out to dinner and set him up with Beverly. Edith and Beverly are against the idea but Pinky arrives at the Bunker's home. While Archie is briefly detained in another room, unaware to Archie, Pinky Knows that Beverly is a man from seeing Beverly's stage show at a local supper club earlier but Pinky will go along with the prank not to hurt Archie's plan until the proper time to foil Archie's revenge. What transpires next is priceless. A little side note; I was sure that was the famed Actor and female impersonator Devine/ Glen Milstead of Director John Watters fame, but instead it was Lori Shannon. The voices are identical but Lori was slightly slimmer than Devine. Just a great laugh out loud episode with outstanding results. Norman Lear and his staff of writers again make comedy paramount.
