Looking to find an escaped prisoner in order to provide an alibi!
planktonrules25 July 2021
When the story begins, two prisoners escape with the aid of a gun someone planted for them. Another prisoner is there and not involved but he is forced to go along with the escape at gunpoint. Later, this innocent prisoner and his mother hire Barnaby to find the prisoner who survived the escape so that he can prove to everyone that he forced this man to go with them.

There is a problem, however, In addition to Barnaby looking for the escaped con (Carl Weathers), a nasty bounty hunter/mercenary (Eugen Roche) is also looking for the same guy...but for a different client...a client who would prefer to have the prisoner 'accidentally' killed while trying to escape! Can Barnaby find this man in time and prove his client was not involved? And, why would someone in particular want this prisoner dead?

This is a very good episode of "Barnaby Jones"...taut, well written and different. Well worth seeing.

DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES!
tcchelsey5 February 2024
A riveting episode, well written by series regular William Keys, who also wrote for GUNSMOKE.

10 Stars.

Popular character actor Eugene Roche (as Ernie) is the whole show, playing a ruthless bounty hunter who is being paid to kill an escaped convict. Barnaby literally has to race the clock to save the man, all because his testimony will vindicate his client. Good Luck with this assignment, and just WHO hired Ernie?

This was the type of story that was done a lot on HAWAII FIVE O, prison escapees on the run, still fairly tense and well acted. Some excellent guest stars, such as Jason Evers, often cast on MANNIX and CANNON. Look for Beverly Todd as Dorla, four time nominee for the NAACP award. A great actress, and in an early role,

Roche, a master of characters, was a regular on WEBSTER, popular on tv and in movies. In real life, he had 9 children! Filmed at Terminal Island, at San Pedro, CA, a favorite spot for filming by producer Quinn Martin.

SEASON 5 EPISODE 8 remastered color CBS/Paramount dvd box set.
