Hardly a bundle of seasonal joy, but a good episode.

Eddie and Polly investigate a bit and run, a young girl is knocked down and seriously injured at a pelican crossing, the driver vanishes, the owner had reported the car as stolen.

Five minutes in, and thought it was going to be a lighter, fun, seasonal episode, the last few have all been lighter in tone, this one however, is altogether more serious.

As you'd expect at Christmas, there are some funny moments, there's Tony with his list, Derek and his cheque book, and everyone is busy telling jokes. £15 for Tony's night out sounds like a real bargain, booze, pork pies and a stripper, with today's inflation that would costs about £700.

You can understand why Mr Beattie is a little bit miffed, the term innocent til proven guilty doesn't quite fit in his case. Eddie really is on a mission to prove the man's guilt.

There's lots of the regulars here, they clearly ensured they could cram as much as the cast in as possible.

I have to be honest, I was not expecting to see Emmanuel Petit appear in an episode of The Bill, sadly it wasn't the start of a glittering acting career.

8/10.
