A bit twisted if you ask me!

Warning: Spoilers
This story didn't exactly go where I expected it to go, but that's good! I was surprised.

Unfortunately, this story didn't end well. Just warning you beforehand. Lon Jessup was a respected citizen in Latigo (even thought this IS the first time we've ever seen him). Lon is suddenly arrested for robbery and attempted murder, but Clay is a good lawyer and is able to get him off. But only a few days later, Lon's wife rides into town and tells Clay that Lon lied in court when he promised to pay all the money back. She didn't want to have anything to do with Lon and was leaving him. Clay wanted to get to the bottom of things, naturally...

Like I said, this story didn't go exactly where I expected it to go, and I ended up feeling pretty darn sorry for Lon in the end!

Lon Jessup has been a longstanding respected citizen in Latigo. Happily married to Alice. His past returns to haunt him.

Two well dressed gentlemen have arrived looking for Lon Jessup. When the Marshall confronts them, they tell him that they have a warrant for his arrest.

Lon Jessup has been wanted for bank robbery and murder that happened some years ago.

Luckily Clay Culhane is at hand. Lon admits to the robbery and return the money but denies murder. Clay manages to use the state's limitation period argument to free Lon.

However that is just when there are more twists and turns. Alice later shows up claiming to Clay that her husband Lon beat her and admitted to the murder to her when she asked for a divorce.

This is a story where Clay reckons a lot of things do not add up. It certainly is meaty convoluted stuff even noirish. There is a lot packed in half an hour.
