Means to an End
Prismark108 September 2023
Mike Whitney and Emory Parsons are business partners in a land estate business. Only Mike is killed during a hold up. Emory managed to kill the gunman.

His widow Fran Whitney is not happy. She thinks that Emory arranged the hold up. Why go to their office when there was a bank next door.

Emory's younger brother Boyd was conveniently out of the way as he went to the bank to deposit some money.

Clay Culhane decides to help out the widow. She wants to inspect the books of the business, certain that Emory was cheating her husband.

In a dispute, Clay ends up shooting Emory Parsons dead and Fran is not a reliable witness.

Lon Gillis (Hampton Fancher) gets more to do as the deputy as Marshal Gib Scott needs to leave town. He needs to decide whether to let Clay out of jail in order to clear his name.

There is a lot of story here, it is almost noirish with a femme fatale.

Warning: Spoilers
What do you get when you get a widow, three men, a nice deputy, an absent, hot headed marshal, and an ex-gunfighter-turned lawyer? Lots of excitement in Latigo!

You won't be able to look away for a second in this episode. First one man dies, then another, then one's put in jail but not put in jail. Then a deputy two are arrested and a deputy is in trouble. Finally our two heroes have it out...AGAIN!

This episode is great from beginning to end. There are some miner clues in the story that tell you who's guilty and by the end you are thinking "Oh wow!"

In all, there were three men killed, one injured, and two arrested.
