Injured and lost
bkoganbing13 April 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Young Mitch Vogel, the adopted Cartwright goes exploring in the woods and gets himself injured and lost. With Lorne Greene away both Michael Landon and Dan Blocker are searching high and low, night and day.

But Hoss knows a secret about a woman that the local minister James Booth has been keeping company with. Joan Hackett is a clairvoyant, the kind that used to be burned at the stake for being a witch. We're all passed that now, still people are afraid. And keeping company with a minister, that carries some special issues.

So she's reluctant to help, but Hoss convinces her. It works out all around in a peculiar way.

Big kudos going out to Joan Hackett for this story.

Could have been an entertaining show.

In a strange episode for the series, Jamie has been injured and is far away from the Cartwright's house. Before long people start to worry about Jamie when he does not return and begin searching for him. Meanwhile, Jamie has regained consciousness and began wandering incoherently through the woods. And it looks like no one will find him before time runs out.

It just so happens that in town is a woman, Judith Corman, who happens to have some special psychic power. Because some adults, especially religious people, do not understand the power and have caused her trouble in the past- she refuses to use the gift. But that does not stop Hoss from asking for help. And with Judith falling in love with a minister, trouble may just be around the corner.

For some reason, the story just was not that exciting. Yes, we had Jamie bleeding and staggering through the woods and that got old fast. Too much time was spent in the woods and not enough time with interesting telepathic female. Not to take anything away from the fine performance that Joan Hackett gave to the script, it just felt like the show was dragging.

tougher to write than expected

This review was tougher to write than expected. The story was ok, the acting was superb, great scenery, good pace and good tone ....it all was just great, so what was the hard part? It was the core concept itself, the idea to pit preacher against a clairvoyant (groom and bride at that!) and then have the Cartwrights be the judges as well as benefactors. This made me think of bullfights and rooster fights, needlessly sponsored and supervised by Hollywood. So I knocked 5 points off for the misguided agenda.
