Worst Episode

Without a doubt The Snooperstar was hands down the worst episode of The Brady Bunch. It was so bad that Susan Olsen aka Cindy Brady hates it and for good reason. The Snooperstar was meant for Cindy to be Shirley Temple during the first and second seasons not when Cindy was almost thirteen years old. Even Shirley Temple was too old to be Shirley Temple when she was in her teens. Sherwood Schwartz and the writers clearly ran out of ideas and how to write for the aging Brady Kids. It was becoming clearly evident that The Brady Bunch was coming to an end with the feud between Sherwood Schwartz and Robert Reed was reaching the boiling point. As for Susan Olsen she was personally embarrassed by the episode.

"Get ready, Shirley!"

I always had a crush on Susan Olsen when I was growing up. I am about the same age as she is in real life, but she is four years older. But as Shirley Temple I loved seeing the reruns as I caught up to her actual age in the show. She never felt embarrassed in front of Mrs Howell and I swooned even more for her. I should get the box set already.

ON THE GOOD SHIP LOLLYPOP?

You know it was only a matter of time before producer Sherwood Schwartz would bring in Natalie Schafer from his old show, GILLIGANS ISLAND. Jim Backus appeared a few seasons earlier, and would return.

It's all about a lesson in snooping, and the super snoop here is Cindy, who has been secretly reading Marcia's diary. How terrible! Marcia and Jan band together and decide to teach their younger sister a lesson by planting some phony baloney stuff about a talent scout --who is considering her to be the next Shirley Temple. Creative writing 101.

Enter finicky Penelope Fletcher, and so well played by Natalie Schafer, in role very similar to Mrs. Howell. She is one of Mike's latest clients, and things are not going well. That is until she stops by the house... Cindy believes she's the talent scout, dressing up (with lots of curls!) and does her Shirley Temple thing! Penelope is impressed, as she idolized Shirley as a kid. Everything between her and Mike is wonderful. If life could be that EZ!

This is a camp episode, off the wall hilarious. You have to give credit to the makeup and costume people for giving Cindy a total "makeover," which in itself is the grande prize. Natalie Schafer probably signed lots of autographs, because she was such a beloved actress. At the time she appeared in the classic film, 40 CARATS (1973).

I agree with the last reviewer, at least 9 Stars.

Not to be missed. From SEASON 5 remastered Paramount/ABC dvd box set.
