Major Winter doesn't feel obligated to treat the Indians as it's not in the treaty.

Capt. Farrell goes with Jeffords, on orders to do what he can. At the Stronghold, Tahzay, the son of Cochise, has been sickened. But Nochalo, the medicine man, refuses the help. Alchisay, who left the fort on his own, made it back to the Stronghold, but died. Nochalo uses this to send Jeffords and Farrell away.

Jeffords plans to go to Peach Springs to get Cochise. But Farrell feels he tried, now he can go back to the fort. Chee, Alchisay's brother, chases Jeffords and Farrell. Chee believes his brother died because of the white man's medicine.

Jeffords reaches Cochise. Cochise returns with Farrell. Nochalo says Tahzay is dead, but Farrell finds a pulse and starts treatment. Tahzay recovers. Cochise decides that all Apache will receive the white man's medicine.
