CORONADO 9 – Sincerely Yours, Napoleon - 1961

Coronado 9 was a one season series that ran during, 1960-61. Rod Cameron plays a former Navy Intelligence officer who decides to set up shop as a private investigator. He works out of his beach front house in San Diego.

Cameron is getting ready to head back to San Diego after a quick trip to New Orleans. He is packing his suitcase when, Virginia Christine enters. She is holding a pistol and waving it in Cameron's direction. She asks Cameron to fork over the 12 grand he took from her husband, Vaughn Taylor.

This is news to Cameron as he has never heard of Taylor or the 12 large. Christine fires off a round and pinks Cameron in the arm. Cameron disarms the woman and sits her down. He then has her explain what the hell is going on. The woman tells Cameron that her husband, a part time dealer in Napoleonic relics, had been robbed of their entire savings by a man. Taylor had told Christine that Cameron was the thief. Cameron calms the woman down and convinces her he knows nothing of the robbery. He will however look into the matter. He wants to know how his name was dragged into the mess.

Cameron quickly hunts up Taylor and follows him when he exits his home. Taylor makes for the apartment of pretty, Sue Ann Langdon. The two swap spit and do a little bit of couch wrestling. Then Langdon sends the old guy on his way. Cameron now pays Langdon a call. Langdon is a dancer at a nearby strip club, and has been bleeding the love-struck Taylor for all his cash. The old mid-life crisis thing has caught up with Taylor.

As the two are talking, Taylor returns for some papers he forgot at Langdon's flat. Taylor sees Cameron talking to Langdon and overhears her laughing about what a fool she thinks Taylor is. He pulls a gun from the table drawer and goes for Langdon. Cameron disarms the fellow and explains that it not worth going to jail over. Taylor realizes that he must come clean with his wife about everything.

Cameron asks how and why Taylor involved him in the deal. It seems that he had simply overheard Cameron speaking to someone outside his hotel. Taylor heard Cameron's name and decided it was as good as any to fool his wife with. He did not think Christine would do as she did. The story was just to cover up for all the cash Taylor had given Langdon.

Not the best episode, but with only a 24 minutes runtime it passes the time well enough. Some might recall Christine as the FOLGERS Coffee woman in the popular TV ads.
