The dumb daughter and the nice terrorist
planktonrules15 April 2017
The story begins with the daughter of a rich and important Italian businessman running off with her Palestinian boyfriend. However, as they leave her property there's a shootout and the boyfriend's 'associates' come to the rescue. But this is not so much a rescue as they are there to kidnap her! Soon the Italian government is getting demands to release a group of captured terrorists or the girl will die.

Over the course of the show, it becomes obvious that the boyfriend is a kinder, gentler sort of terrorist and he does love her. It's also obvious that his friends are cursed with not niceness....and so it's up to Cannon to come to the rescue.

The episode is interesting but also comes off as a bit naive about terrorism. The whole love conquers all plot seems just trite.

THE CLOCK STARTS TICKING, AND FAST!

A super charged story, written by Robert C. Dennis, behind so many classic Alfred Hitchcock tv mysteries. The title alone is his creative trademark. Dennis worked with William Conrad at Warner Brothers/ABC tv in the 60s. Also a BATMAN alumnus.

Charles Cioffi, a memorable actor, portrays an industrialist who's daughter is kidnapped by a Palestinian terrorist, leaving Cannon 24 hours to save her life. That's truly one for the books. If the ship scenes seem familiar, it looks like the same one used in an earlier episode where Cannon went undercover as an officer and put the boat under quarantine. Cioffi gets the award for best dressed actor here.

Thanks to Dennis, this story moves fast and furious ---check out Cannon and the boiling soup in the face scene. Definitely will give you some chills. Some excellent actors in key roles, Harold Gould in particular. Gould was originally an acting teacher who jumped ship. He made the right choice. If you watch carefully, it all has the look and feel of a MOD SQUAD story, one that may have been outlined, but never completed.

Applause for Cal Bellini (who passed in 2017), playing Haddad, the desperate boyfriend of Cioffi's daughter, played by Ayn Ruymen. Bellini appeared several times on HAWAII FIVE O and MOD SQUAD.

Actress Ayn Ruymen (as Fabiana) and Bellini make an intriguing team. In fact, there was enough material in this couple's relationship that could have made it a two-parter episode. Ayn is best remembered for roles in the famous teen drug addiction drama GO ASK ALICE and JAWS. She retired in the 90s to teach theatre acting.

Director William Wiard handles this story extremely well, and with an eye for detail. Cioffi's palatial mansion with the Hollywood view is the famous Airole estate in Bel Air, reportedly the largest mansion in the country. Recently it sold for 144 million dollars and made national headlines.

For film buffs, yes, that's veteran actor Paul Bryer as Captain Sheer, making his fourth appearance on the show.

EPISODE 23 SEASON 4 remastered color CBS dvd box set. 21 hrs length. 2016 release.
