False phone call, tiger and damsel in distress episode!
blanbrn1 May 2021
"Angel Hunt" was episode 11 from season 4 of "Charlie's Angels" which first aired on December 5, 1979 was an exciting adventure like thrilling episode with twist and drama! The story is the girls decide to spend an off day at the beach things get crazy when they get a false alarm phone call from someone pretending to be Charlie. Their stay and journey on Diablo Island becomes a dangerous cat and mouse game with bad guys hot on their heels it's like a dangerous jungle with exotic animals like that of a wild tiger on the prowl! Things are revealed that this caller is a past enemy of Charlie's with a score to settle. Also notable and memorable is Tiffany(the pretty Shelley Hack) being kidnapped and held hostage having a damsel in distress scene as she's tied up and gagged. Overall well done memorable and exciting late series episode that was a fun thrilling watch!

Well-produced, adventurous episode

Warning: Spoilers
"Angel Hunt" is big and adventurous and exotic; it feels more like a season opener or closer, though it actually came in the middle of season 4. The Angels are having some fun in the sun (and the sea) when they receive an urgent call from "Charlie", asking for their immediate help in Mexico. When they arrive there, they are (mis)guided to a "desert" island, where they soon find out they have some unwelcome company: a man whom Charlie had contributed to sending to prison for life (for multiple murders) has escaped and, along with two other escapees, plans to hunt down and kill the Angels one-by-one, unless Charlie (and Bosley) can figure out where he is and come to stop them. Without their guns or other benefits of civilization, the Angels have to count on their wits, their skills, and even their humor, to survive. Certainly one of the most memorable episodes - can you name another one that features both a tiger and Kris doing a Tarzan imitation? Also we see lots and lots of Charlie this time....the back of his head, that is! And this episode goes even further than "Angel On Campus" in establishing Tiffany as the most literary-educated of the group. *** out of 4.

The Most Dangerous Angels
adamcshelby17 September 2021
The Angels are enjoying an off day at the beach at Kris's house when a phone call from Charlie lures them to a Mexican island. Problem was that the call was fake. Kris was duped and she should have known better than to just demand they drop everything before checking in with Bosley. I like that they didn't gloss over the guilt she felt later on in the show.

A man named Wilson boats them to Diablo Island and quickly abandons them, taking their guns and other possessions. The Angels soon discover that the island is a game preserve full of dangerous big cats and that they are in for a fight to stay alive. They're also being hunted by humans, with an old enemy of Charlie's the mastermind.

Lloyd Bochner plays Malcom Case, someone Charlie had imprisoned years earlier. Bochner previously played a bad guy in season 3's Angels Belong in Heaven, and was best known for being Mr Colby on Dynasty. He's joined by LQ Jones as Case's henchman Burdette. Jones previously played an evil sergeant in season 1's Bullseye, and played a more sympathetic character in Angels in the Backfield. LQ just has one of those evil mustaches.

The majority of the episode is of the Angels figuring out how to survive without food, water, or weapons. The interpersonal scenes between them are well done, with new Angel Tiffany starting to bond with Kelly and Kris. There is an unbelievable moment or two, the biggest being when Kelly and Kris set traps for Case, Burdette, and Wilson. Kris claimed she learned this skill by watching TV shows, but of course that's absurd. And when they fell a tree onto Burdette and kill him, well, it defies all logic how a pair of 105lb Angels could have devised such a massively heavy and cumbersome snare. Despite the physics-defying feats, it's a fun adventure episode taking the Angels out of their L. A. comfort zone.

Worthy Villain

Warning: Spoilers
Most shows, whether due to failure on the writers' part or because they have something new to offer, fall back on literary tropes. One popular trope comes from Richard Connell's much-anthologized 1924 story "The Most Dangerous Game," where a man stranded on an island is turned into human prey for a wild game hunter. This story has seen a wide variety of variations and was even used to comic effect on "Gilligan's Island."

In "Angel Hunt," the fourth season "Charlie's Angels" variation, the Angels (all right, it's Kris) fall for a trick on slender evidence. We wonder how good they actually are as investigators as between the five of them over five seasons (Jill, Kelly, Sabrina, Kris, Tiffany and the other one) are incapable of locating a picture of their boss, Charlie. (I'm no investigator but once my bosses at work gave me a picture someone had cut from a newsletter and with no information--even the newsletter name or where it came from--in ninety minutes I was not only able to find out what the newsletter was I had a copy in hand).

Often the villains in "Charlie's Angels" episodes look like push-overs. Not this time. Well-known, much-used actor Lloyd Bochner appears to be more than a match for our heroines. He even has a few gleefully wonderful lines. I won't give away the ending but as the Angels appear in the next episode and have another whole season of escapades . . .

Some "Angels" episodes are fun, some are serious, others are just bizarre (such as a "They Shoot Horses, Don't They?" dance contest with some wonderful 1930s music. This episode might have been more fun if the Angels hadn't been so all-fired stupid to begin with. And one scene typical of this overused plot is missing: an initial confrontation of the Angels with Bochner. Bochner's character seems more unfair for not letting the Angels know what's in the air. Other than that, this is a silly, enjoyable episode.

Oh, BTW, Tiffany, tigers can swim, and climb trees.

Doesn't make sense

Warning: Spoilers
Kris gets a call supposedly from Charlie telling them to come to Mexico because he needs help. Before she hangs up he says Bosley is already on the way. That alone should've raised flags with Kris because surely Bosley would've contacted the Angels and have already made the travel arrangements for all 4 of them to go to Mexico together to help Charlie.

Instead of realizing this, she hangs up the phone and tells the other Angels "We have to go to Mexico right NOW!". You'd think for a detective this girl would possess basic detective skills and realize something was amiss since Bosley hadn't contacted them.

The rest of the episode is good I have to admit, but how they get lured there in the beginning could've been set up better.
