THE DETECTIVES – Little Boy Clue - 1961
This one is episode 62 of the 97 episode run of, THE DETECTIVES. This series starred Robert Taylor and ran between 1959 and 1962. The first two seasons ran at a half hour and the last season had a runtime of an hour. The series followed the detective squad in a big city precinct. Cast regulars included, Mark Goddard, Russell Thorson, Tige Andrews, Lee Farr and Adam West. Robert Taylor headlines as Police Captain, Matt Holbrook.
Several complete Police uniforms, including service revolvers go missing from the Police locker room. Detective squad members, Tige Andrews and Russell Thorson are assigned to look into the matter. Matters get heated when it is discovered that a Police car has also gone missing. Detective Captain Robert Taylor figures something nasty must be in the works.
The Detectives check all the civilian personal and find that a part time janitor is missing. Some records digging soon turns up that the man, Robert Garmes, has a criminal record. Detective Andrews pays a visit to Garmes apartment. A young lad, Dennis Olivieri, answers the door. He tells the Detective to blow and come back with a warrant. Andrews does just that but finds the apartment now empty.
A quick look around the area soon has the young thug found. He was hot footing it away with several suitcases. A quick look in the suitcases turns up all sorts of stolen goods. The lad is hauled back to the station for a chat. The kid is a tough cookie and refuses to cooperate with the Police. He will not spill about where Garmes is.
Garmes, and another crook, Fred Krone, are using the stolen uniforms and car to pull an armored car robbery. This they do, then skedaddle with big bag of cash. When the cops hear about the robbery they quickly put two and two together. They stake out Garmes place and wait.
The kid, meanwhile has finally coughed up that he is an orphan living on the street. Garmes had been nice to him and given him a place to live. The kid felt he owed Garmes something, thus the refusal to help the Police.
Garmes and his cohort show and are quickly gobbled up by Taylor and the boys. The kid, Olivieri, is sent to a foster home and turns over a new leaf.
A decent idea is muddled a bit with the young boy side story. But it is still a watchable episode of a pretty decent series.
