There is romance for Doctor Finlay and a warning from Doctor Cameron.

Finlay has fallen for a married woman Anne Stewart. She is unhappy with her husband and constantly comes to the surgery with ailments.

Dr Finlay knows there is nothing wrong with her but maybe showing signs of depression with the drudgery of life and mother hood. He takes her for country walks and activities at the church hall.

The village is talking, her husband senses something is up and it takes Dr Cameron to tell Finlay of the dangers of a doctor having an affair with a patient.

Anne Stewart is not the only one to suffer depression. One of the German POWs that Dr Cameron is teaching English to is suffering from depression.

It was an interesting notion that being well meaning to the German POWs could also come across as being condescending and even propaganda.

I liked the idea of Dr Finlay getting over his broken heart and falling in love even though it was rather unconvincing.

What a Despairing Episode

Warning: Spoilers
Doctor Finlay fails his code of ethics in acting upon his attraction to a patient at least 15 years his junior.

He is every stereotype of a love-sick adolescent in his mooning and distraction.

His very caring colleagues come to his rescue to urge him to stay, or should I say, return to, the straight and narrow.

The object of his obsession is the mother of two preschoolers. Her husband is a very attractive, faithful, serious churchman employed as a butcher. Life is no cake-walk for him either.

The community bands together to provide assistance to the mothers in their town. Kudos to them. Rotten eggs to Doc Finlay!
