SNAKE ALERT: For anyone having a bad snake phobia, be forewarned that the episode has some snakey moments where a man is threatened with one.

After watching three seasons of "The F.B.I.", I have noticed that generally the episodes involving espionage tend to be among the most interesting. So, the fact that "The Mercenary" is about spies...well that's a nice sign for this season 3 finale!

John Whiting (Fritz Weaver) is an evil jerk. His specialty is using blackmail to get folks to pass along US government secrets to him...and he sells them to communist nations. The episode begins with him getting into a fight with one of these victims...and the guy gets tossed out of a window! The man's death alerted the FBI that something is afoot and Erskine gets to work investigating this death and the spy ring.

This episode is helped with character actors like Weaver and Suzanne Pleshette....both are excellent and the episode engaging and worth your time.
