fluffy and boring

I had a feeling this episode would be a bummer, and boy, was I right. One story has unrealistic top "athletes" running a marathon to win whatever; this event looks more like a beer league tournament with one chubby guy looking like he belongs in the Lynyrd Skynyrd band. Barbi Benton(again?)makes an appearance in this show, as does Arlene Golonka, as 2 women trying to win prize money to save their barbell plant; Peter Isacksen(about 7 feet tall)and Dick Martin, who was actually slightly funny here, also star in this segment. You know you're in trouble when any story revolves around Tattoo, as this time around, he wants to adopt a baby boy, who actually looks like a girl and has a strange looking head. Perhaps the only nice moment in this segment is when Mr. Roarke and Tattoo have a serious conversation about the baby, and what is best for him, although I was slightly surprised he gave his approval to Tattoo's wishes. I won't ruin how this plays out, although I'm sure you can guess, but it was the correct decision. As I've said many times, I prefer the darker segments this show has to offer, but so far in the 1979 season, it's been nothing but fluff.

Another soporific Fantasy Island episode!
imdb-2528815 January 2023
But I'm watching the heavily edited version on GET TV instead of Tubi, so who knows! Myself, I hate babies, plus romance stories usually bore me. As someone else said, the baby's peanut head and hairy face was beyond ugly. (I can say this: he's 43 now, and I' sure he looks much better!)

Let it be known that Herve Villechaize was Asian (possibly Filipino or Indonesian) and adopted as a baby by a family in France. So this was probably written especially for him. He seemed unusually emotional. Let it be known that Herve was a very good actor, and you can tell that when you compare him to Julie or the butler of seasons 6 & 7: Tattoo was greatly missed! Yes, he acted inappropriate towards women, but that was written in the script, and what transpired off camera is none of my business.

Highlights of the show: Tattoo in an Olympian's outfit, complete with torch.

Mr Roarke holding a very tall glass with red punch, as his intro cocktail.

A closeup on toy Polynesian canoe, with the "sidecar" for balance and sail.

Mr. Roarke cheating at the Fantasy Island games (or was he?!)

For the rest, this episode was beyond boring. I regret to write this, because this was a significant episode for Villechaize, as it echoed his life, but it was soporific fluff. Barbi Benton was gorgeous as usual but her story couldn't have been less interesting.

Seems the writers were already running out of ideas here. But Montalban was always a joy to watch as Mr. Roarke and Herve was a great counterpart. 4/10 and regretfully cannot give it a 5. Watch it for those highlights, if you must.

Beautiful carved baby crib

Watch this episode to see that. It is a beautiful wooden carved Victorian baby crib. I love it.
