Sisters Bertille and Jacqueline have taken the convent's first grade class on a rewards trip to the beach for a weenie roast. A gypsy named Janus Zayukovsky's (Neil Burstyn) dog Raffles snatches a woman's purse and he chases it wishing to no longer steal. The situation still leaves him jailed. Meanwhile, Raffles runs to the beach and plays with the kids. When he appears lost, Sister Bertrille appeases the kids' wish to bring him back to the convent. Reverend Mother Placido protests, but gives in when she sees its only temporary and how it has helped one of the introverted children, Jamie (Mark Dymally). Raffles begins to swipe other people's wallets and purses. They place an ad in the newspaper for him to be located by his owner. He causes more mischief leading to the reverend mother insisting Raffles must be turned over to the pound if the owner doesn't contact them in two days.
