Ryder has his work cut out here.

Potential Wimbledon champion Ted Fenimore is accused by 12 Katy of molesting her. Jeff Ryder takes on the case, but finds everyone unwilling to talk to her.

A very good, imaginative, tightly written episode, it's a story that feels a little unusual for The Four Just Men, it's a case that you could imagine Hebert Lom investigating in The Human Jungle.

It just goes to show how dangerous saying nothing and keeping silent can be, the bystanders title really does fit the bill.

I really liked the tennis setting, it worked pretty well, Fenimore was convincing as a potential tennis player too. The rooftop scene added a degree of tension, it worked well.

Ronald Allen did a pretty good job as Fenimore, but Conte definitely steals the show.

Good episode.

7/10.

The Bystanders

Jeff Ryder comes to the aid of rising American tennis player. Ted Fennimore (Ronald Allen) is tipped to be a future Wimbledon champion.

However he upsets 12 year old Katy Peterson. She has been besotted by Ted. When news emerges that Ted has become engaged to get married she becomes angry and upset.

Katy makes up a story that Ted assaulted her and tells her dad. Albert Peterson (Phil Brown) plays merry hell and soon the media take great interest.

With Ted on the ledge threatening to throw himself off it. Jeff Ryder faces a race against the clock to get Katy to tell the truth. Witnesses that could have come to the aid of Ted decided to be bystanders.

At times hysterical but the media sort of get off in this kind of hysteria. Phil Brown is very good as the bullying dad, who cares less about the truth until the neighbourhood stand against him.
