The promotion of the Lo-Max
ShadeGrenade5 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The second episode of 'Frank Stubbs Promotes' begins with a death in the family - Frank's brother in law Colin ( Ian Bartholomew ) drops dead from a heart attack. At the funeral, Frank's ex-wife ( who'd had an affair with Colin ) pays her respects. Frank moves in with his sister 'Petra' and niece 'Dawn' ( Danniella Westbrook ). He is then given the job of promoting a new kit car called a Lo-Max. It looks like something out of the 1950's. Nobody is interested in the thing. Then, Frank manages to get the car exhibited at a motor show. Furthermore, Dawn puts on a space-age suit and promote the vehicle as some sort of super car. Sales begin to improve. Then, disaster. The car is stolen by joy riders...

This episode is initially focused on Colin's death and subsequently fails to amuse the way the previous episode did. Poor Petra has inherited massive debts from her late husband. Some very good acting from Lesley Sharp here.

There is a touching final scene with Frank, Petra and Dawn watching the Cliff Richard film 'Summer Holiday' on television and singing along to the theme tune. Frank has taken a knock, but he is not out for the count yet.
