GIDGET AND THE BOWERY BOYS CONNECTION?
tcchelsey14 October 2023
Hal Cooper directed this hilarious comedy of errors, and you know its going to be episodic. Cooper directed tons of comedies, including the BRADY BUNCH.

Another loose in Hollywood story finds Gidge and Larue on a daring autograph mission. Their target this time is the two man rock group called THE DINGBATS. Their strategy is actually kind of clever as they connect with a Beverly Hills florist who is the exclusive link to the stars. Soooo.... for 20 bucks, Gidge sends a rose to the Dingbats and she and Larue follow the delivery truck to their address. Not a bad plan!

There's also references to Elizabeth Montgomery from BEWITCHED with guest star Irwin Charone, playing the florist, Mr. Goodpasture? Charone frequently appeared on Bewitched and many other sitcoms.

When Gidge and Larue FINALLY meet the Dingbats... after many stumbles... it turns out one of them (Herbie) is played by none other than Jimmy Murphy, one of the BOWERY BOYS. Jimmy played Myron in the later episodes. He actually was discovered parking cars at a Hollywood restaurant and was signed by Allied Artists to join the Bowery Boys. This opened the door to many tv appearances.

By the way, the 20 dollars Gidge spends on a rose would cost today about $200 dollars. Are you serious! Where did Gidget get the cash? If you're a music buff, you may also get the inside joke. Gidge and Larue claim they're dressed like pied pipers, which was a hit song in 1966, the PIED PIPER, sung by British singer Crispian St. Peters. The song reached #4 on the charts (up against the Beatles and the Rolling Stones at the time) by summer. Popular dramatic actress Lynn Marta has a small part as Ellen.

Do not miss this one. SEASON 1 remastered color dvd box set.

Gidget's Search for the Dingbats
JordanThomasHall5 September 2017
The popular rock group the Dingbats have arrived in Los Angeles. Gidget (Sally Field) is determined to find where they are staying to get their autographs to display at the school dance. She drags her best friend Larue (Lynette Winter) along, ala Lucy and Ethel from "I Love Lucy", to celebrity homes. They find a florist truck of "Le Fleur de Beverly Hills- Floriste to the Stars" and go to the florist (familiar character actor Irwin Charone). Gidget pretends that she is friends with Liz Montgomery (yet another series reference to "Bewitched") and orders a single $20 rose to be delivered to the Dingbats. She follows the delivery truck to find the address and then sells it in the form of a $5 map to 10 fellow girls at school- a supposed secret group that begins leaking out the groups whereabouts. Gidget and Larue watch a news program where the two-man Dingbat group of Herbie (Jimmy Murphy) and Arthur (Andrew Belling) tell the importance of their secrecy. Arthur is getting married the following day and wants just one day of privacy. Gidget decides to warn them before daylight as inevitable trouble ensues.
