The Sisters (#2.12)
ComedyFan201014 January 2014
Warning: Spoilers
For Sophia's birthday Dorothy prepares her a surprise: she brings her sister Angela from Sicily. Only turns out they both hate each other. When asked what it is about they tell a different reason. At a confrontation they realize that those were two misunderstandings and are friends again.

This is a very sweet and funny episode. Nancy Walket was a great choice to play Sophia's sister.

And the confrontation scene is great. Not just the hilarious insults, but also how they tell each other what really happened almost made me cry from laughing.

Nancy Walker is fabulous here.

Sophia is set to celebrate her birthday, and Dorothy has a big surprise in store for her, Sophia is inpatient, and tries to truck Rose into revealing what the surprise is.

Definitely another classic episode, this was very, very funny, with an awesome new character.

What inspired casting Nancy Walker was, she was absolutely perfect for the part, the way they had her made up, she was actually the image of Estelle Getty.

What a shame that Audrey wasn't a series regular, I only hope she pops up again soon, she was hilarious, almost equal and opposite a character, but equally sharp and quick witted.

That scene where Sophia is given her 'surprise,' was absolutely brilliant, and surely not a moment anyone was expecting. I loved that moment where we get to learn the reason for the conflict.

Classic episode,

9/10.

Nancy Walker: the perfect sister for Sophia!
El Cine24 March 2019
What a brilliant casting move--the filmmakers got Nancy Walker to guest star as Sophia's sister Angela.

A Hollywood veteran perhaps best known for "McMillan & Wife" and "Rhoda", Walker is just as petite as Estelle Getty, creating a fun sight gag and a perfect match (and perfect foe!) for Sophia. They buried Walker under the same makeup, wig, and glasses as Getty, but her distinctive voice is quickly recognizable.

Angela proves just like Sophia in other ways--namely, being stubborn and vindictive! Dorothy brings her over from Italy as a surprise present for Sophia's birthday, but old grudges surface. Will the reunion be a disaster?

Walker is excellent. Also, in a fun early plotline, Dorothy (amazingly) entrusts Rose not to reveal the surprise present too early, and your knuckles will get white as Sophia tries to trick Rose into doing just that!

A guest star who should have been made a recurring character.

Warning: Spoilers
Veteran stage and TV actress Nancy Walker made the first of two appearances in this episode that reunites Sophia with her estranged sister Angela. They haven't spoken in over 30 years, torn apart by an alleged betrayal. Walker and Estelle Getty are so much alike in their appearance here, given witty banter insulting each other, and Walker delivers a terrific story concerning Pee Wee Bombambzi. It's a single story that deservedly dominates the episode. My only issue is that Walker simply enters the front door, deserving applause for that first introduction. Although Walker made one more appearance, her replacement with brother Angelo (with Angela never mentioned again outside of a flashback episode. One blooper has Angela seen in several outfits even though she didn't arrive with a suitcase.
