Margo Leadbetter has arranged a special dinner for The Townwomens Guild which includes a lecture from the local librarian and a special guest.
When the lecturing librarian pulls out at the last minute Margo has no choice but to turn to Barbara to fill her shoes. Barbara surprises everybody with her lecture on self sufficiency. In fact she goes down so well that Margo is inundated with calls for Barbara in order to congratulate her.
One such caller was the dinners special guest, Lady Georgette Truscott, a charity worker extrodinaire who is always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need, and support almost any charity that is managing to do some good in the world.
So impressed is Lady Truscott, (hereto informally known as 'George') that she engages Barbara for a series of lectures around various charity institutions with which she is affiliated. The more successful Barbara becomes it seems the the more lectures Lady Truscott organises.
Yet the workload seems to be increasing on poor Tom and with no Barbara around to help he's finding it hard to get everything done, especially when he has to chase after an energetic cockerel, on the loose with a hankering for bus travel.
Also, worth watching are some wonderful comic scenes, where Margo and Jerry don ascot attire and hampers from Fortnum and Mason's, in an effort to social climb with the ever so down to earth Lady Truscott.
Angela Thorne who later became Penelope Kieths frequent co-star in 'To The Manor Born' plays Lady Truscott, and look out for Robery Lindsay in a bit part as a member of one of Barbara's more captive audiences.
