Sex & Nudity

  • At the very end of "L'apres-midi d'un faune" (the third and last of the ballets), the Faun lies down in the missionary position on top of the scarf belonging to the nymph that he loves, and ejaculates (i.e. has an orgasm) on it. This is not something dreamed up by the producers of this telecast or by Nureyev; it happened in the original production, and it was exceptionally scandalous at the time.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • In "Petrouchka", the Blackamoor, Petrouchka's rival for the affections of the Ballerina, kills Petrouchka (if you can say that about a puppet who magically comes to life) with his scimitar. The Ballerina is terrified, but doesn't really show any grief over Petrouchka's "death".
