Don't bother to watch this one, nothing funny to see

Warning: Spoilers
While at Drucker's, Eb meets the town's new school teacher, Carol, played by Kris Nelson, and he immediately feels as though he's in love. He knocks over a stack of canned goods, fumbles for words and all. He is late returning to the farm with the groceries he was sent to buy.

Back at the farm, Lisa tells Oliver that she can't make toast for Oliver because Eb didn't return with the bread and other items. Oliver points out that they have some whole wheat bread, but Lisa somehow believes the toaster will only work with white bread. When Eb does return, he tells the Douglas's all about the new teacher, including how he helped her settle in, including drawing her bath-which seemed like an odd thing for him to do. He backs up the "white bread toaster" business.

Eb is ready to bring in the new love of his life right away-it seems he invited her to live with them, so she'd be close to him. Now we know it is a one-bedroom farmhouse with Eb sleeping in a loft in the barn. When asked where he figures Carol will sleep, he says she can have my room, and I can put my "crib" in your room.

Lisa and Oliver meet Carol, explain there's no room for her, and say they'll try to find her a place. Between Oliver, Lisa, Eb, and myself, I'm the only one who thought about the Shady Rest Hotel.

Next, as Lisa is cramming dishes into the dishwasher, Darlene Wheeler comes in-she is Eb's current girlfriend, asking for help in picking a dress for the upcoming dance Eb asked her too weeks ago. Lisa happily lends her one of her fancy gowns and says nothing about the new girl in Eb's life.

When she points this out to Eb, he has so totally forgotten about Darlene, he couldn't even remember who she was at first. He then asks Oliver what he should do. Oliver, of course, tells him to tell the truth. Rejecting that, Eb goes, for reasons that make no sense, to seek Mr. Haney's advice. On learning Eb has only $3, he takes it, and advises him to go to Darlene and borrow $2 because he doesn't have any $3 advice. Then he says he should go tell Darlene that he has a wife somewhere and can't go to the dance with her.

Being a total idiot, instead of his usual partial one, Eb takes this advice, angering Darlene's father, Mr. Wheeler, played by Robert Foulk, who is more often Roy Trendell on this series. He punches Oliver in the nose for letting his "son" mistreat his daughter.

Now Eb is getting around to actually asking Carol to the dance-he had just assumed she'd go since she's new in town. But he finds out she has a boyfriend who has now arrived for a visit.

There was almost nothing funny about this one. Most of it seemed like a re-used plot from one or more earlier episodes. First of all, Eb falling in love at first sight is a recurring theme. He seems to always feel he has to lie to all the girls he likes. Whenever Oliver gives him sound advice, he ignores him. Assuming things about his "girlfriends" frequently leads him into trouble.

I skipped telling about some silliness with the dialog having Eb and others say "bing brack bead" instead of "bring back bread." The Hank Kimball scene was devoid of humor. Hank comes in says hello to Oliver then thinks the new teacher is Lisa. When Oliver says "This is the new teacher," Kimball walks past her to shake Lisa's hand, welcoming her to Hooterville. As Oliver tries to tell the teacher who this kook is, saying "This is Hank Kimball" Hank walks past Lisa and shakes Eb's hand, noting it odd that they both have the same names.

As I said in another review, sometimes Hank is hilarious, sometimes they make him too stupid to be funny. This is a prime example of when he's so dumb I'm sure some people turned the channel.

I just cannot justify giving this one a score higher than 2. Definitely one to skip if you're going through the series.
