In the barely watchable mess that was season seven, Zen and the Art of Murder shines: finally a good episode with solid dialogues and an existentially disquieting closure.
Bayliss (Secor) and Lewis (Johnson) investigate the killing of a Buddhist monk; Ballard (Thorne) and Gharty (Gerety) deal with a witness who refuses to identify the main suspect of their case.
Characterization is on target, the new detectives are used well (unlike in the rest of the season). There are also a couple of nice musical montages, which used to be one of the show's trademarks.
7.5/10
