One drunken wild child
bkoganbing28 January 2021
This episode about teenage drinking and driving is one of the outstanding episodes of the series. There are a lot of tragic stories that come out of the events in this story.

Robby Preddy a single mom has one wild and undisciplined child in Christina Chauncey. One fine day while intoxicated Chauncey runs down a little girl buying ice cream from a truck vendor and she's killed. The good citizens of Sparta are outraged, but both the police and the county sheriff's office track her down. The scene where a drunken Chauncey is arrested is classic.

But that's only the beginning Some are sympathetic to Preddy's plight dealing with a wild child out of control. Carroll O'Connor and Denise Nicholas do offer a kind of solution. But that's before more tragedy occurs.

Preddy and Chauncey are nothing less than outstanding in this episode. And there's an appearance by Allan Arbus best known for being psychiatrist Sidney Freedman on MASH. His portrayal is a southern version of Dr. Freedman.

There are a few tragic victims in this gut wrenching story.
