...unless it is a "big name" show from years ago like "All In The Family". I actually remember this episode from almost 40 years ago. It was so weird to see it show up on LOGO this morning. Apparently the channel is running several episodes of the sitcom during weekday mornings.
Somebody said this series was set in LA, but I always remembered it being set in New York CIty. At any rate, one of the waitresses is mugged, so the waitresses all start carrying mace. Then afterwards, there is another attempted mugging, so the waitress maces the would be mugger. The mugger and his lawyer try to get the waitress to drop the charges, and when she won't relent the mugger simply tells her he will sue her for injuries sustained in the mugging if she won't let it go. So you still had a litigious society even almost 40 years ago and you also had entitled criminals. Although this is a rather dumb lawyer and a dumb criminal - sue a waitress? What you got and ten bucks would get you a cup of coffee at the yet non-existent Starbucks. (Well it existed in Seattle at the time, but nowhere else.) Some things never change, although with DNA evidence and cameras everywhere, it is much harder to be a common criminal than 40 years ago AND get away with it.
It was a bit of a time capsule with people actually having to LOOK for a phone, but I noticed that this early 80s sitcom had pretty good art design. If you look at old 70s sitcoms such as All In the Family or One Day at a Time, the sets look slapped together. It looks like somebody is going to do Improv comedy and so they just grab an end table and a couch and some generic painting - and this is somebody's living room?
