Dot and Vicki end up in a love triangle with a playwright which threatens their friendship. The B-plot has Cassie and Jan on a diet because they "failed" Nancy's latest weigh-in. This harkens back to the pilot where Nancy was after the girls about putting on pounds. The idea that the waitresses are required to remain a certain weight would certainly not fly today among the Body Positive crowd. It is also stated in the script that Above the Top is "the best-paying waitress job in town".
The old "two-characters-fight-over-the-same-man" scenario means this episode is not very original but is elevated by a great cast and some small but entertaining moments.
The Vicki character seems quite aggressive here - she even calls Dot a "hussy". In turn, Dot refers to Vicki as Little Miss Muffet.
Highlights: Lois tries to get the girls to reconcile and has a nice scene recalling a treasured friendship that became broken. Mario stands up to Nancy to protect Cassie (none of the other chefs really showed this paternal side). So, the best parts of this episode are tender rather than funny.
