Cassie's Cinderella Story
kgraovac5 November 2023
Billionaire oil tycoon Hank Dobson has a business meeting at Above the Top and charms the ladies. Even though he's seated at Dot's station Nancy insists Cassie be his server. Dot spends the whole episode complaining about it. Dot calls Nancy "Miss Bebe" which she has never done before. Later Nancy overhears Dot calling her a "conniving underhanded dragon lady". The animosity between Nancy and Dot will be really played up for the remainder of the series, and their insults will become a highlight after Ann Jillian leaves the show.

Nancy then basically pimps Cassie out just because Dobson has taken a shine to her. Cassie objects but gets revenge the next evening when Dobson rents out the entire restaurant for a private dinner for just him and Cassie. Nancy dismisses the staff because only one waitress is needed - but Cassie insists Nancy be their server. It was a nice bit of payback for all Nancy's smugness over the years. During this scene it looked like Nancy and Cassie were wearing each other's clothes. The actresses should have switched gowns. Nancy even has a line about Cassie's dress, asking if Cassie "mugged Joan Collins".

Speaking of clothes, there's a funny reveal when Sonny removes a trench coat in the lounge and he has on a gaudy electric blue rhinestone cowboy outfit. He spends most of the episode sucking up to Dobson by serenading him from the piano hoping for big tips.

Cassie has a nice heart-to-heart with Jan about falling in love and Jan cautions her. It's a good scene but lacks the gravitas of such moments back in Season 1. T

Dobson gifts Cassie with a fur coat and a trip to San Francisco, which means Cassie will not be able to cover for Jan, who needs the night off to attend her daughter's play. The two ladies have a big argument but Cassie does come through for Jan at the last minute and finally tells Dobson to "hit the trail".

The waitresses debut new burgundy velvet off-the-shoulder uniforms in this episode.

It's better than the previous episode but everything still feels rushed to me I guess I need to get used to this new format. I also think John Philip Law was miscast.
