Above the Top is host to a high school prom with a Hawaiian theme. Cassie counsels a teenager about to spend prom night with her boyfriend; Dot comes to the rescue when the entertainment falls through; Howard wants to perform his magic act; Jan is scared to tell Richie she can't have another child.
An okay episode - nothing special, typical of the season. Cassie mentions having caught Amy's cold. Ann Jillian must have had a real cold when they taped this as she sounds stuffed up. Sonny sports some very '80s threads, including an earring he "borrowed" from Nancy - who demands it be sterilized before it's returned to her.
Sonny, Dot, and Amy perform "Dancing in the Street." Jan dances with them but doesn't sing. The girls all look very pretty with flowers in their hair.
Howard tries out his trick handcuffs on Cassie, but then can't get them off, so she's stuck in the kitchen while the others perform in the dining room. Odd she was left out, since Ann Jillian is a singer and released an album in the '80s (I have it - she's great but it consists of standards, so only good for relaxing with wine). Nancy later makes suggestive comments to Howard about the handcuffs.
Jan's confession to Richie goes over well; his odd response to her not being able to have a baby is that he "can't take out the garbage." HUH?
The slow dance scene at the very end continues over the closing credits, replacing the usual instrumental theme song.
